    Yeah understandable.
But who is it makes it a job and work and not play for fun, immersion and roleplay?
Just to say it's a Roleplay game.
    Not a progress grind game.
But you can sure make it one by yourself

Basically you can be yourself in terms of being able to carry your build without any consequences in terms of metagame.

I am certainly invested in the game and its success is important to me in many ways. I look forward to what the future holds and socializing with my friends/family in Shroud of the Avatar!

It's the first game since UO that felt like a home instead of just another game / grindfest. It still has the grind though if you want
    to play like that.

Plus if you have not checked out the game recently with so much they have added it is ok they will just keep adding and then more surprises for you when you finally do give it another chance. *sending vibes to @Devs to work more magic than we thought possible each release until March 27*. ie new items/recipes, beastery, hidden vale, rewards, loot, lore descriptions, and quest clarification, discoveries, performance and loadtimes. ;)

I'm here because of the social and roleplay possibilities. I met very nice people in Novia and this game make me feel like I'm living in another world. The devs did a fabulous job over those past 49 releases and their involvement is great.

Also, I love the infinite progress idea as long as the exponential learning curves prevent any form of god mod.

And that's where things get complicated. With the current release, I get punished for my usual play style and feel compelled to adapt to the game more than the opposite.

I mean, I love pvp (as a strong part of any credible role playing game), speed and physical ranged attacks. I don't like to take minutes just to get buffs for the better defense or self healing. I don't like to have to train magic to get debuffs or resistances. I don't like to stare at my hotbar to get the proper combo and I much prefer to look at my environnement to find cover or good placement. I just want to hit hard and run fast. And in Shroud of the Avatar, I get strongly frustrated because the combat design is just about playing cards with a big part of fortuity. Fights feels bad to me and involve necessarily a lot of defense management. Not to mention that there are some combinations of skills which feel absurd and provide a decisive advantage between people with the same level.

So yes, I'm still there and I can have a lot of fun with this game. But my motivation has deteriorated a lot when the game told me "Hey there ! Sorry but you only made bad choices with your play style ! If you want to be able to compete and enjoy the experience in the best conditions, just stop that and do as I say !". In every other game, I would already be gone after such a slap in the face. But I still think that this game has something special and I have a lot of friends here.

So I just wait for someone to wake up, understand my confusion, and correct the aspect of the combat system that plagues my happiness. Time will tell if I was right to be patient.

Some more depth on my votes. I love building a character in the classless system. Enjoyed it immensely in UO and currently addicted to it here in Shroud. On top of that I'm the explorer type from Raph Koster's archetype of players who enjoy these games. I play with a couple RL friends at this point and I'm constantly out there looking for new places to go with them. ( One has had such a negative experience with these games he will only play Friends On Line, so appreciative of that aspect even though my primary mode is Multi-Player) I also really enjoy the combat. Light armor but fast I am zipping around as I imagine you would using Terrain/LOS to gain the upper hand. Great Post.

I voted for other, me reason for playing is its WAY better then letting my brain get fried by the zombie box. I play sota specifically because I like the deck system, the choose you own skills, and that devs listen and help.

Is Moscow really that terrible? I was there a few years ago and it seemed pretty decent (except for the taxis... scary).
