It would be rather disappointing if George Michael (or any NPC for that matter) can "1-shot-insta-kill" a PC. That's a lot of power to give to someone that essentially stands around in the same spot all day asking the exact same questions and giving the exact same answers. :)

On a side note, it would be an interesting system if the less you did the more powerful you were. Hey, look at that rock over there! He's a level 500 war mage.

I was exaggerating a bit, but I do remember the town guards being very tough in the Ultima RPGs if you stepped out of line.

I wonder if guards will have shifts once they put in schedules.

I like the idea that you could uncover the guards daily shift schedule as a book or bulletin somewhere in a guardhouse, and maybe the ability to move the shifts around and see the guards actually respond to your changes. That would be a part of an important quest of course, but wow that level of interaction and ability to effect the daily lives of npcs would be fantastic.

    Haha awesome thread. Thanks.

The "i hate you" was me. woot! The NPCs really got to me in this game and after a while of them not recognizing anything I was saying, or helping me when asked for directions, I began abusing them.

My reply to Michael to where I was from was "your mom's house" to which his reply was that he was not aware of such a place, but thanked me for being honest.

I hate text chatting with NPCs.

Thanks for the insight, Lum. And thanks for your hard work through the holiday!

And mad props to whoever threw out the Wu Tang quote! 4th Chamber is pretty much the greatest track ever.

Poor Micheal. Taking all that abuse, when he was just doing his job. I will try to be nicer and bring him something next we meet.

Haven't played too many MMOs, then? A "guard" is usually the programmers' way of keeping players from breaking the game in some way. They tend to be ridiculously powerful. Don't ever mess with them unless you want to die swiftly.

This.... may not be your game, friend. LOL :)

To Lum, thanks for all the hard work. I regret not talking to the NPCs more than I did. I wasn't really thinking about how useful it was to you guys. I was just trying to find boxes of loot. :)

Now I can sorta see why the alpha was only up for 2 days. Annoying, but it makes more sense now that we see how much work was generated for you guys in that short window!

I was one of the ones that said "over there" because I didn't want to tell him the truth because then he would dislike me, I also didn't want to lie because then he would also dislike me. I'll have to invent a better more believable story, Perhaps "I am from the land of Woe, but we have ketchup"

I think you make a good point. At this time the guard registers that you either lied or told the truth. In my mind there should always be a third option, one that is enough to answer his question without revealing anything about your past. In this situation, your virtue shouldn't go up or down. I think this is a very important option to have in all situations like this one. Two options makes going through the game feel too 'good vs. bad' which is just too black & white to get me hooked. I'd always feel frustrated that i'm forced to make decisions before I'm ready to decide. We need shades of grey.. Also, what motivations does the game give me to make my decision? I think these motivations should exist to make this a successful dynamic in the game.

Also, it's important that an NPC never registers an unrecognized answer as a lie or a truth. you should be allowed to try again until you answer in a way they understand when it effects your virtue, and sometimes, maybe they can repeat your answer in the way they interpret it to ensure their interpretation is what you meant. These are important conversational needs in this kind of open system. Otherwise people will get frustrated fast when NPCs keep misunderstanding their meanings and mark you as good or evil due to a miscommunication.

IIRC, it was confirmed in the 80's that George Michael would never dance again, let alone stand around all day. Something about guilt, and a lack of rhythm I think.

Good luck with that. If you can "PK" me in my single-player game, you're a world-class hacker! :)
