Would be nice if we could find lock picks in game, maybe drops from mobs, and in barrels, crates etc we find in the world, to be used for chest we find in dungeons, caves, and while exploring even , like ESO has ..... I love that feature in that game, makes exploring fun ..... and makes the game a tad bit more interactive :)

Ah remembering lock picks being a regular feature in Ultima as well. I expect this to come a little later but would be a shame not to have it. Two words I hate from U7 - Pick Broke. :)

Indeed and it actually is a very old D&D concept, which was present in very early titles like Eye of the Beholder.

In response to Black Orchid - Yes , but you don't have that problem with lock picks, they are stackable .... no need for a key ring ... unless it is for special locked doors to be opened that you need a key for, ex (to get in a door you need a key for that can not be picked with lock picks, oh yea :)

I liked using lock picks in ES (single player game) too. Having a little mini-game pop up to try to pick a lock is really fun and challenging. It's even better when a success lets you loot the chest or enter the room... but a failure can result in negative things like curses or trap doors or something that can set you back a bit.

Consequences for failing make them much more rewarding when you succeed!

I agree. It was a simple and easy to implement idea back then, and I think (a chance) to pick objects in players homes should be at least partially implemented in game as a means for players to search for valuables as a means of income..

    /agree on great idea
/agree other ideas contributed, the meta-game in particular but also the lock/pick tool notion
/vigorously cheers with full pom-pom action before setting them down in the thread and roaming off with a decidedly curious, pokey look in her eye...

Interactive locks remind me of System Shock with the 'hacking' being a rewiring type puzzle with a form of oscilloscope to show 'hot' and 'cold' as you got closer or farther away from the correct wiring plan.

There could be lock pick challenges on the overworld map.
In single player mode the "human players" homes would be available to be lock picked/chest picked/fight with NPC all depending on the amount of upgrades that particular "human player" had purchased or come to own.
Ep2/3 could also increase the upgrades on homes to include undead or monsters... towns with extra dungeon level etc..

    Lock picks would be nice.

That makes me wonder... I don't remember if they've ever discussed crafting of keys for our chests/containers. That might be an interesting addition to permissions.

It would be interesting to have more than one type of lockpicking tool, or more than one type of lockpick.

Just an idea, of course ;)
