Yes, this. It's the lazy way, but I found it more enjoyable to farm there alongside other IRL tasks than I did running around the woods in other scenes, and spending more time fighting elves or wolves instead of reapers. The reaper there always spawns in the same spot, and there's nothing else around, except a brown bear that can get annoying sometimes if you're too close to it while waiting for the reaper to spawn. The reaper has a respawn timer of five minutes. Kill it, do something around the house, kill it again, etc.

Thanks everyone for your help and kindness, I take note of your advice for the next time I go hunting reapers.
As for the recipes, the recipe for the Ardoris map drops into the fauns, I have obtained several in the Silver Mines of Broken Echoes. The rest of the recipes seem that they can drop on any creature, the recipes of Ravensmoor very often drop in the catacombs of Soltown and Solania.
I've gotten a dozen recipes so far, but I guess they still have a lot more to put into the game.

I found the Loot Stats at https://shroudoftheavatar.net/shroud-of-the-avatar-loot in the API to kind of help. You need the full report, which can take a few minutes. When done, I keep that page open and open the specific map link in a separate window, that will show you where the item has been dropping in "SOTA speak" and what monsters are in there. From the monsters, I can mostly determine the actual zones name. A bit of work, but I'm determined. lol

Level does not seem to matter but it appears that higher level mobs have a higher drop rate.
The maps that are part of the recipe can be obtained from the booksellers or found as loot.
This information is contained in a book you can get for free from the art dealer in Ardoris.

    Happy Hunting

Or just speak to Caravaggios Wolf in Ardoris and type framed map and he will give you a book for all the map locations.

There are 4 spawn locations in Greymark forest, to the N (in the forest), W (just north of the river) , S (near the camp) and E (island), but usually only about 2 do really spawn and then you have to wait for a while for random respawns.
Still OK if you harvest some tress or clay.

Ashen will drop 50% more often from all reapers (15% now) and it's also been added to the loot tables of red thorn flowers and flesh flayers which are mostly in the pvp zones. (R86)

Speaking of sotawiki ... that page says "It can also refer to some items that are found by salvaging items", then has the entry for Ashen Heartwood - implying that you can get Ashen Heartwood from salvage. I don't think I've ever gotten any heartwood from salvaging -and certainly not Ashen.

It's good if you're trying to get as much focus as possible for stuff like canticle or shield of air.

Besides the +focus benefit to weapons the Ashen Heartwood is also needed to make the new framed maps.
