All I can say is that that premise is inaccurate. If it was true, we would have to go through a compatibility interview before buying a POT.

I understand completely the need for people to be able to ban idiots from their open area meetings and celebrations.

But I think I'd prefer to see the bans (and these bans given ONLY by town owners, not random plot holders in the town) to be temporary things, with the power of permanent bans kept in the hands of impartial GMs - once a good case has been explained to the GMs, the permanent ban could come into effect. This for the sake of the game and its longevity.

Consider the player owned town owner not a GM then, consider him a Fuedal Lord, and he controls the lands around his area, and he has the power to cast out anyone unwanted in the area if they are being disruptive. Maybe consider him being a sheriff of the area, telling people to "get out of town!" How ever you view it, a gm or dev will not be there on a moments notice to assist you in your needs. It falls to the player town owner. If you grow to dislike the player town owner, boycott the town.

This is sort of the point I was trying, but failed, to get to. To me anything is better than outright denying access by way of "no entry" dialog boxes popping up, or invisible walls. Even if the guards 2 hit kill, or insta kill. There are a lot of possible options that make it immensely more interesting yet still effective.

Guards could cast silence spell, heck the town crier could cast upon entry to the zone. There could be a guard spawned for every banned player that approaches too closely. Guards could ignore crowd control abilities, yet cast them with 100% success chance. Make death more costly by making resurrection cast 100% fizzle, require players to zone out while dead to find a healer in a friendly town.

Forget about guards for a moment. Give all non-banned players a buff that increases their defense and attack ability so they're effective in formal dress attire. Let them punch the riffraff to death. Give all banned players a debuf that makes them less effective. Hire RP event defenders; I imagine this sort of thing is right up OoV's alley.

I personally think it would be more fun if POTs had to deal with the riffraff invasion as it's happening, but even if the riffraff has no hope of even streaking naked through their event, anything at all is better than invisible walls and "no entry" dialog boxes. At the very least my hope is that there will be an effective solution that allows RPers to continue with their business with nothing more than noting, "Hm, the riffraff is at it again today in our town. Our guards have yet again proven their worth."

This might work in a PvP town of course. :) But what about consensual PvE towns where guards cant attack or kill anyone. For that matter no one can attack or kill anyone.

How are you looking at bans that would not result in guards dragging you out of the city but merely caused you to enter private instance (like in some dungeons)?

That is pretty illogical considering the cost and investment people put into this game. How can banning become common practice if its bad for business? You guys make all these points but do not use logic to back it up.

The only thing you got so far is yes if they want to be an asshat and ban randomly they can. However no reasoning behind it.

I am $7700 + into this game. Do you think I want to push people away? Seriously? Why would I waste all that money to be a troll. That is illogical.

Now someone who pays that much money investing into this MMORPG doesnt get any tools for town owners to create an RP atmosphere by being able to ban gold spammers is not a good idea in my opinion.

If someone buys a city and wants to ban the entire SOTA community just because. Why should you have a say so in it? Its not your city. You didn't spend 1000-5000 on it did you?

Now a troll can ruin my town with $25.00 and park in my city go afk and destroy my towns RP atmosphere. If this were not an RP game then I wouldn't have wasted my time posting.

I have been to several successful RP events. Everyone has remained in character. This is groups of 50-100 people having a good time. One person can ruin that by spamming gold for sale 100 times a second.

Then the other problem with this is the discussion doesn't move forward, we agree on things and we are still saying random people banning random people is a good idea.

Its not this is only meant for the guy who spend 1000-5000 on his town. If he really wants someone to not be in it, heck he paid for that choice. There is nothing in POTs but peoples houses and vendors.

I have spent every other weekend welcoming people to my city at the welcome quests trying to draft RPers to my town. I have not only put money into my town but alot of my time advertising and also web pages.

Why would I ban people just because? Its like setting a suitcase full of money on fire. There is no logic in that is there? Would you do that? To be honest I hope people ban everyone from their towns. You can come to Serenite!Where ONLY Gold spammers will be banned. Everyone else is more than welcome to browse the shops and or enjoy some RP.

100% agree with you. Give the people who invested in the POTS the tools so they can manage the atmosphere.

As far as I can tell she is not worried about PoT owners doing this but 'Town Mods' with permission to ban people, sometimes even without the PoT owner knowing about it... Really it reminds me of rogue mods on some forums... some people act all nice to get permissions and then start causing trouble... it is not really common, but it can happen.

The problem is that we are trying to think logically, while others will not share this view. If it was so simple, there would be no need for discussion. If there is a way to abuse it, people will. And everyone will pay for it including the good POT owners.

Just look at the PVP discussions. Many of the greifers are just people treating the game as a first person shooter. They are not insane, just just see it differently.

Guards that can't attack or kill anyone in PVE towns sound like civilians not guards :) I don't have a solution for this other than what Duke William mentioned.. Forced escort out of town, once apprehended.

If I or the banned person had actually done something bad then any punishment is appropriate.

My worry is where players get randomly banned though, so if that led to a bunch of people finding themselves in a ghost town (because it was a private instance), then I'd see it as bad for the game. I really would prefer temporary ban powers only and these only being wielded by the town owner, along with permanent bans being controlled by GMs once a good case has been detailed.

Unless town owners are actually wanting to create a feeling of exclusion in the game. If that's the case then an exclusive POT should simply not appear on the map at all (as suggested somewhere above, can't find post), it should only appear on the maps of people allowed into the town.

Ok "town mods" also bad idea.

One town Mayor and ONE town owner. Two people have control. That way the town owner knows who did what. The Mayor is also the Mayor and the city should advertise who these people are. So if they decide to be asshats let them ruin their own reputation.

I love that idea for whitelisted towns.

I still think that PoTs should have more control over bans on blacklists though. I am bit afraid that GMs will not have much time to deal with that and I know that a lot of people loves to walk a very thin line not actually breaking rulles, just being as annoying as possible within the rules... It is not so good to force people into Friends Only game to avoid few bad apples invading their town...

    I do not plan to:p

The only problem with this 2 people approach is that it will inevitably lead to situations of griefing, with everyone saying "darn, I wish Player A, and Player B, were logged in right now." I think perhaps a better solution is to allow town owners to specify trustees, like housing lots, and then keep a town event log that shows which trustee performed which action, and when.
