Greetings Anglers!

Welcome to the monthly fishing contest instructions thread! This contest starts and stops at Midnight Central U.S. time in the evening on each month's Release Day.

CONTEST LOCATIONS AND PRIZES:

R104 FISHING TOURNAMENT INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO PARTICPATE:

To participate, players need merely catch trophy fish in any of the locations indicated above within the proper monthly timeframe indicated. The locations will change every month on every Release Day at 1159PM CT, so be sure to pay attention to the announcements for new locations each month! Please do not send your fish to @Winston via the in-game mail system. Through data logging, he'll be able to determine the winners. Please hold on to your fish, and feel free to use them in any fashion after the catch.

HOW TO WIN:

• The first place winner for one of the 4 categories (POT, NPC, PVP, Lava) catches the LONGEST fish (just one) in any of the towns/scenes in that category. Prizes are also given to second and third place winners in each category.
• Weight of fish has nothing to do with the contest.
• There are no cumulative / sums of values used in the contest.
• Number of fish caught has nothing to do with contest results. The sotawiki Leaderboards / Statusboards show number of fish caught to merely give people an idea of how much someone has been fishing (level of effort by each player).
• Players may only win ONE prize. If a player is a leader (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in more than one category, they are given the highest level prize starting with the POT, then NPC, etc. category. Other players will then move up in the category were the duplicate slot opened up and probably get a prize. It is simply "de-duping" the prizes so there can be only one. (per player -- *smiles*)
• STAGES: @Winston is experimenting with 7-day Stages where the player with the longest fish over that specific 7-day stage may win a prize (TBD); just 1st place, not 2nd and 3rd. The Leaderboard/Statusboard shows the standings for each Stage. When a stage is over, the next stage starts with everyone zero'ed out for longest fish and a new 7-day period has started. These stages do not affect the overall month-long contest.

TOWN REGISTRATION:
-- Each month, the contest takes place in 6 Player Owned Towns, 3 NPC Town/Misc Scene Locations, and 2 PvP locations and 2 Lava Locations.
-- POT Governors or representatives, contact @Winston if you want your POT on the list for the contests.

PRIZE INFORMATION:
-- All prizes will be no-trade. The same account cannot win more than 1 prize category per month. Their highest category win will awarded.
-- 3rd Place Prizes will change monthly.

BOTTING IS PROHIBITED:
Any confirmed botting efforts, regardless if you win or not, will result in an account suspension or ban, as with any other botting attempts throughout other areas of the game.

PLAYER-CREATED FISHING EVENTS:
Players may create additional fishing events (side-tournaments) during this Monthly Fishing Tournament. Players are welcome to sweeten the pot for a particular POT or other location by awarding additional prizes based on objective criteria entirely of their own design.
- Run the fishing event within the start/end dates of this Release's Fishing Tournament.
- Post the event in the in-game events forum.

Alrighty, ready for feedback and also ready for Town Registrations! Not sure how many towns will be in the first of these events, but we'll see how many submissions we get. My goal is to keep player activity somewhat compressed to encourage more player interactivity, so it'll be likely 3 or so towns max each week.

 

I can definitely take registration entries while the post is in draft

 

@Elgarion Is the leader boards system being adapted or extended to track this? It would be nice if so, not only would it help you as it could track the event for you, but also give players insight into where they stand currently. I guess it that becomes really successful, then it could be further extended with a verbal Darkstarr notification of, "We're throwing you back!" when a current leader in a category gets bumped.

 

@Elgarion My main concern for this event is that towns with different water types have different size of fish, especially the salt water fish are much larger than the fresh water ones, so it would be nice if the towns each week had the same type of water. Or alternatively have different prize pool for different water types.
Also is fishing in dungeon located in town okay to get fish from fetid water even if the town has fresh water?

 

Town owners can place deco to change their water variety... if any town participating does not have these items or are too strapped to purchase, I can loan them one. Not sure why there isn't a conversion to fresh water, but perhaps the largest fish sizes aren't there anyway. Not positive... I'll learn more about the ranges of fish sizes per fish soon, so I can vary the fishing objectives each week.

My goal for having a small # of towns each week is to promote side-by-side community gameplay, and not having people hiding in their dungeon to fish. Also, I'm not positive what the tooltip would say that fish was fished from, if fished from a dungeon. If it doesn't say the source town, then it's definitely a no. PERHAPS though... one week we do dungeon fishing competitions as a separate concept once I see tooltips from fishies coming from dungeons.

Yeah my town's coastal and has fresh water. Going to have to do something about that.

Devil's Lair added to the registry Trinity! I've decided to limit it to 3 towns per week (the goal being trying to get players into the same scenes together in a bit more compressed fashion), so you'll be one of the 3 the following week. And keep in mind, now that you're on the registry, it'll loop back to hit your town again.
