Concept Art: The Oracle

I think not referencing that they appear as spiders would be a good idea.

official oracle term would be something like, Watcher, Seer, Eye-drone, Visionary, magic-viewy-do-hicky.

what the populace calls them could depend on how they feel about the oracle. Spider-spy, spymaton, spyders(or does Mitsubishi own that?). eye crawlers, eye stalkers,

Name suggstion: Arthropod Agent

 

Could easily suspect would be occasional lighting spark between the two ... on top of the spider

 

I immediately thought of spyder too. And fleyes.

I have arachnophobia, but a spider with only one eye that is mechanical gives me less creeps than a real one!

Right, there could be at least two different names depending on if people hate/love the things. Perhaps those who like them see them as 'spiritual' guides, reminders of something like a totem that is constantly present. I'm just not sure what the affirmation consists of, so hard to really come up with something suitable at this time. [Just please no Falling Skies - skitters]

Edit: Ok..nm.. here's a generic one that could go either way, a throwback of sorts - Beholder.

vision-o-matic, spy-o-matic, visionaton, seeing ones, viewamatic, The Crawlers, The Fliers(for the fly ones), Skittering Eye, robo-viewer(seer, etc.), spyborg.

Trying to think of names that combine their function with their construction. robotic, automaton, seeing all.... They don't appear to be cyborgs at all.. unless there is something to their construction we can't see... or where do they get those eyes from? hmm...


SPYBORG... thats probably my favorite so far... Edit: found out spyborgs was a wii game (so might be owned by capcom) also found it was a boss in starfox N64, so it might be public domain.. dunno... Also found a bunch of drawings with the name spyborg on it that look like a megaman rip-off.

My first thought seeing those mechanical spiders is the creepy 'clink-clink-clink-clink'ing sounds their 8 metal legs would make..

So I think they should be called, "Clinkers".

 

Sensible they would be named by the common soldier who have run into them.

Yes, they have some sort of "official" designation given to them by their creator, but the rest of society is going to know them by the sound they make just before they gore your eyes out.

 

The ORDs (Oracle Reconnaissance Droids) are coming...

The RESPYs (Reconnaissance "Spyders") are coming...

 

How about the flying ones be called "overseers"..and the spider drones "underlords".

 

Perhaps the crawling ones could be "Jurors" and decide if someone is doing something wrong by the Oracle's standards. The Jurors could then call a Judge (the flying ones) for final decision on whether or not to pass the wrong doing onto the Oracle.

 

Oh my, don't want to be seeing the "Executioner" then (well maybe a little peek and then run for the hills).

Here's a few more ideas: the crawling ones could be "Roaming Revelators" and the flying ones "Soaring Seers".

 

I wonder what Stephen will come up with next - Hulking, Oracle sentinels, perhaps? We've already seen her recon droids. Some of the Oracle's other droids should be packing some serious firepower...
