Welcome to the MMORPG community
A. As of this year Gaming is the #1 form of entertainment in the World.
in total agreement here with you!
the long answer, yes but it is NOT all gamers who whine/moan/complain. the real problem is that a relatively small minority in about ANY hobby will make the most noise. the squeaky wheel syndrome. In all games and in life, there is a tiny minority who seem to find it massively important to BE HEARD! those people do not care what KIND of attention they get, as long as they have all eyes on them. about 90% (yes pulling this stat out of the thinnest of air) of players are actually, ya know, playing the game....the 10% are in the forums, either trash talking or fanboying or just having a conversation.
The real problem is the internet anonymity. folks can get by being a total turdbucket on the internet, which they (rightly) cannot do in real life, face to face conversation, otherwise they might receive that "clip about the ear" that steevo deevo mentioned. People who are totally nice in real life sometimes get up to some serious hijinks on line!
When i played WoW i loved to drop a political bomb in world chat right as i was logging off for an hour or two. I always made sure that my kids or hubs were gonna play for a while first tho! lmao! Yes, i can be a bit trolly at times! it is especially FUN when you get hollered at by your kids for that action!
That would be chicharrones, aka fried pork skins, a well known weakness of @Chris .
Some great replies, thanks.
I always feel that his community, more than most others I have been a part of has a high level of mature, intelligent discourse. The drama still exists, but it tends to be less spiky than other places. This may be due to the fact that the average age of a player of SOTA is 84.
Yes indeed they do!
Its a Myth that Gamers complain more then other hobbies.
I jet need to see a scientific evidence proofing it.
Only during sex.
I can understand about competitive gaming, but here i read daily complaints about not competitive stuff
If you really want to see toxic behavior, go to a religious debate site. This is not a gaming thing, this is a ego thing, and more and more people are getting more and more egotistical as we go along living our lives. The culture we have in the west right now grows ego like crazy. Most of us do not even have time to think about anyone else but ourselves nowdays. We have families killing each other for insurance money, people killing people just to get famous, let people die from starvation, build weapons that could kill all life on the planet.
Gaming isn't a hobby. There are a few of us who actually are entitled, and far more who think they are.
Much of the gaming community is pretty terrible though it depends on what they a complaining about. Said terrible element isn't confined to video games though - it is common in a couple of other hobbies.
That said - if the community is complaining about design decisions, balance changes or spawn rates or any of the BS minutiae like that, it means they are still pretty invested in the game emotionally which overall is a good thing IMO even if people are terrible about phrasing it. The people who didn't bother complaining and just walked away are the real elephant in the room here. They don't care - they aren't complaining because they did just move on like some people wanted. Like most of those 22,000 kickstarter backers.
What? You don't like, When Harry Met Sally? It's a classic!
I so hope our society hasn't degraded to the point where a mediocre movie like that is considered a "classic."
