I would say yes to this one as well. It definitely felt very Ultima-ish. I'm sure that feeling will grow as the game develops.

Not at all. But that won't stop them from making a great game.

While there are plenty more things that are yet to come that will help make it REALLY feel like an Ultima, my answer is still very much YES as well.

So far, the look and the feel of the project is taking the right aspects of both the Ultima series and UO.

i saw the custom housing which reminded of ultima online. The bag system brought back memories as well. Typing words/sentences to the non player characters really brought me back to ultima games. I played ultima v the most on atari st.

Forgot to add; which is all awesome :)

Shroud of the Avatar has thus far the beginnings of what feels like a modern spiritual successor to Ultima. It is awesome. :)

Interesting world, awesome immersion, and fun to play even if you are not doing anything in particular. Yes it does feel like and Ultima game and then some!

I must admit I'm a little surprised at people's responses as I myself am just not quite there yet. Though I will say I've no doubt I'll get there. It will take more than a town or two and bag containers for me though. I'll have to get out into the world.. roam the maps and get into the story. But for right now it's just a little too soon.

Perhaps I'm also being a little thrown off by the controls which to me still feel a bit clunky.

For me, I say it not because of the 'town and bag containers', it's because when I walk around ...its hard to explain... but its like I can feel Richard Garriotts presence there. It has that charm that other games lack, and a simplistic feel to it. The fact that they don't start right out with combat and put the extra time into other things like decorating and crafting, things that aren't 'kill monster and level up'. Sure there is a huge chunk still missing because the story is still incomplete and we haven't gotten to really experience more than the skeleton, but up to this point it does feel like Ultima to me. I logged into UO after playing SotA and looked around noticed the difference between the things EA has brought in since Richard Garriott left it, EA can try to mimic Ultima by stealing names from the history but they don't get it. Ultima is different... and that's how this game feels to me.

Very well said, I too feel it is too early to say anything good or bad about the game. Though I remain very optimistic from what I have seen!

I agree as well, those were my exact thoughts when I saw the name of the thread before I even opened it. Some of the features so far have the look, I am thinking around R4 we will really start to see the Ultima side. Not enough in game at the moment to really say yes.

It is exactly as awesome as the Ultimas (not counting UO), the current depth and immersion are unbelievable. There is a sense that if they added nothing else to the game at this point, it would still be better than anything else out there.

And from the looks of the other posts in this thread, I'm not the only one who feels this way.;)

Very positive posts you two above :)

I have to say at this early stage it does not "feel" like an Ultima for me. I'm glad there is a further 12 months to develop.
