We know that encumbrance will start for players in R14.

Once vendors come into the game, will they be subject to encumbrance? If I'm an armorer, will my vendor be able to hold 50 pieces of platemail?

Hope so. Otherwise vending could become quite frustrating.

I am not sure what they have planned. Theoretically a vendor is a NPC person, so possibly they will have limits based on that fact.

A vendor should be able to take things in and out of shelves in your shop... it shouldn't matter what he can hold on his person.

I mean.. I'm hoping that they make vendors act somewhat realistic, like NPCs, instead of having them stand out on people's roofs 24/7 in rain and sun, barking for people to buy their warez.

The bones of vendors are reinforced with steal that is anchored to the ground where they stand. This is way vendors never move, yet are still able to hold windmills, and hottubs.

Ah, wonderful point Redfish...the question then is...will having an actual room for your vendor with shelves etc help with their capacity? A lone vendor outside your door may not have shelves...aside from being able to go in and out of the house to restock :)

Presumably the platemail is in storage crates and the vendor is overseeing the transaction. The vendor is not holding 50 sets of platemail.

Yea, I don't know how they plan on making NPCs work with their schedules yet.. but back in the single-player Ultima games, an NPC merchant would refuse doing business with you if he wasn't in his shop or it wasn't business hours. In the game it could work so that the NPC inventory is tied to certain containers in his shop, most likely behind the sales counter, and whenever he's in its proximity, sales become available.

Then, the devs could carry over the same model to Player-owned vendors.

Would be nice to see vendors go through some daily schedule too, and sleep at night. You'd provide them a bed, at least. I wouldn't expect to have to provide them food; that's what their "wages" are for.

Outdoors, there could be some vending carts. Some buildings could also have open windows with stalls, like in Medieval cities.

Do we know that the NPC's will have homes and schedules? (like Skyrim)

Lum said Richard is pushing for this sooner than later. Looking in Owl's Head and Ardoris, I'm not sure I'm seeing a bed for every NPC currently.

Or crafting stations for the NPCs to use, for that matter. :D
