What are the home power generators going to be used for? I can only think of the radio that even uses electricity, and it doesn't even require a generator for it. I understand it is used for city protection, but what is the future use of electricity generated on private lots?

I think they are just decorations. The radios and such work without being hooked up to power.

I've had this grand vision in my mind for years. What a bummer. Maybe one day...

Sure would be a great way to light up your home, better than a bunch of wall torches. Plus I could get my blender to work for all that Margarita mix I have stored.

I think they are wisp catchers. Wisps get caught up in the vanes and then their energy gets transported down to the little containment unit near the bottom. With proper insulated gloves you can tranfer the wisp essence from the containment unit to your clockpunk pets. The "steam" they emit is actually wisp rage and should not be inhaled.

The idea is for generators to be required for all aether devices to operate. Places with a moon tower will power the whole scene, and wind and Steam turbines are for personal use on your lot. Clearly this has a couple flaws such as selling radios in the add on store without the requisite power source. So implementing this in game will be later down the road when they have a plan to address discrepancies like that.

Those poor wisps, and all they wanted was information input  and not windmill generator input :(

I was interested in a similar thing for the steam pipes in Resolute. They seem to go underutilized not being connected to an ultimate steam-using contraption.
