Listening to a guild member be frustrated that he came to the Hilt but forgot to bring coal -- and then came back with coal but didn't bring enough - it might make sense to put some coal nodes near the forge area or something?

Or just adding coal nodes everywhere!
    Seriously, we need them.

Hehe, I remember at least 4 different instances where people on the quest forgot to bring coal. While it’s frustrating, it’s a “read the memo” situation imho. As far as I remember, the journal mentioned the coal. Maybe the solution should be to highlight the coal part somehow.

Amusingly, they should just change the title of the quest to Bring some coal and go to the Hilt Fortress...

Interesting idea. I'll give it some thought, but no promises!

I think generally they don't have many coal nodes because they want fuels to be a gold sink, but the forge is sort of a special case because it's so far back in a dungeon zone.

I'll be adding 3 coal nodes in the lava area.

Also, I noticed the lava area has no ambient lava sounds. Lame! I added them, too. And 3 sulfurous ash nodes. And a couple of ramps to help get out of the lava pits.

Awesome! This will definitely help out the players on the main quest.
I didn't know there were ambient lava sounds - I'll keep an ear out and make a list or something.

This is great news! I've done that quest many times on several characters/accounts, and even knowing, I still forget coal more often than not. Thank you, @Sannio -- this will save a lot of people some serious frustration!

    Thank you so much :)

Also happened to me I forgot the coal. I run back to the room with blacksmith crafting Station and wondered, why there was no coal to find?

My thoughts: all those Avatars who forgot to bring their own coal...

At last friendly @Rentier came over to help me with ;)

I think you need a smithing hammer too, be worth putting a standard lootable one in too. Just as mines tend to have picks laying around to loot if needed. Not everyone carries tools, especially at low level as the non artisan/prosperity tools weigh 0.5 each and new character can not always carry much weight.

Also remember to do it in the quest line instance not just the the standard hilt instance.

    Regards

Another good idea! I'll add a typical smithing hammer.

Nice. Literally had a newish player (the one in the post yesterday, who the game didn't switch into Private mode so he spent 3 hours fighting the intense respawn mobs before reach out for help) get all the way through (now finally in Solo mode) and realize his hammer was broken.

    Man he wasn't happy yesterday.

Ironically I had warned him about the coal but neglected to think about the hammer.

I just added a smithing hammer in the room before you get to the lava caves. It's leaning against the altar in the Obsidian Chapel.

Are the devs aware that people not in a party, but going to craft the lens, are not always being put into Solo mode? So if they don't know to switch, they are going up against the giant respawn mobs?

We've recently made some improvements with scenes that have both multiplayer/default and solo/quest versions. I think we've fixed the issues you've mentioned with those updates. Players who enter a scene with both types of scenarios will be sent to the multiplayer/default scenario unless they are on a quest which requires them to enter the solo/quest scenario (in which case it will put them in that scenario). If a player isn't experiencing that, they can submit a bug and we'll take a look into it.
