Ok so I have a Pic of my idea and overlaid it on a 1k x 1k area. 100 Squares x 100 Squares

    Now a City lot is 4 x 6 and my Keep will be 8 x 12

So in my plan I have 7 lots, if I make them all for City Lots then I am way over for a Holdfast?

Soo I am not understanding how you make a template with City Lots?

I see some pictures where people are putting lots in City lots like I have - BUT

If you want a Holdfast with say 12 Row Lots, 4 Vil, , 3 Town, 2 City lots do you have to put them in the 7 Blocks I already have???

Yes they would fit but you will be forced to cluster Row lots INSIDE what are "template" out as city lots?

This does not make any sense nor is it in any way "Custom"

They don't count toward your lot count, they are just areas flattened to potentially have lots placed on them.

So I think my biggest confusion is what are we designing, the land and then placing LOTs where we want or LOTs and creating land to accommodate?

Roger but say my template is one of the choices, does everyone then that has a Holdfast Island forced to place thei houses in locations I have chosen?

Templates are about re-usability, you would design it with an excess of flattened city lot sized areas with enough options for all sizes (holdfast to metropolis) to cover as many options as possible. We don't even know if devs are accepting player designed templates, but since they have made one already we can submit ideas and hope.

yeah but in NO WAY would my design hold a metropolis, it isn't supposed to it is a Holdafst and designd around the smaller size. I don't want 1k of open land with 7 houses on it?

That is exactly what it will be unless the option to move transition points closer to the housing is a go.

well if I can place the house all close together close to the water, not to big a deal, but ALOT of wasted space that will NEVER get used as I will NEVER make it bigger than a holdfast.

Yes one of mine is a holdfast also, i have crossed fingers for that option with transition points. Though some people like the idea of the extra space for events and role-play.

and by those thoughts, since I want Costal, I am now forced to have land the same as PaxLairs? and put my houses in a places that they have chosen , since all lot will have the potential to be City Lots? and what about my keep?

Some serious issues with that mindset.

You could use Ardoris or Kingsport, or wait and see what Brittany and the other coastal NPC templates look like. We dont even know how many templates there will be yet, just that it wont be 200.

    Grumpie,

You could even choose the Port Mirren/Estercove template to place your holdfast on.

The city lot size is just for a reference to cut smaller lot sizes from OR place side by side to make Keep and Castle lots.

Think of it as the lot template on the biome template.

yeah but again LOT of wasted space in those, I am hoping for something a little more cozy but we shall see

I am starting to think that what we want on it are not all that important (woods, grass water, sand, if some of the thinking is correct these are just plain on graphics the isues is the level and where the houses are?

Again some true input would be nice but :-(

I am new to SoTA and considering buying a PoT. I keep seeing people refer to *templates* like the *Pax* template pictured in this thread. Where do I find these images?

Pax Lair is the Guinea Pig. The first POT to be put into the game, and the first POT Template to be produced. It will be in the game with R17, coming in a few days, and will be the model for implementation of Player Owned Towns.

There are no other templates at this time.
