Would love to see something like this for housing options! It would be nice to have a visible distinction for a shop with some combined living space.

These would also be great in conjunction with enclosed floors to allow for future rentals. (essentially with a stairwell and doors for each floor to delineate flats)

While I love this idea to have a shop/home combo... I also love how some players are being creative and putting up a makeshift shop in their yards in front of their houses.

I'm not saying don't do it. Just commenting on how cool some of these shops that are being put up look.;)

People would always have that option and many will still do it even if we had these. It would just be nice to have another housing option for people who want to have fully functional shop buildings.

This would be particularly nice for those with row houses. Not everyone can afford a village lot.

I agree, but the ability to set permissions on different sections of a house, and houses designed for this purpose would be necessary prerequisites.

Not really. It would be the same as any other house type in game. No permissions now.....but eventually all property will have rental permissions. Or at least thats the plan as I understand it.

I was thinking of this more like...I could have my business and home all in the same attractive little structure. ;)

Emphasis on houses designed for this. I am so disappointed by the lack of rooms currently in all house models. Renting parts of the current models is not going to at all useful until there are actual ways to divide up the houses.

Let me rephrase... The requisite rental permissions are likely to be available prior to any new houses for the purpose being designed or built.

Dang it... now I need to change my vote. I can't be seen as agreeable! Makes me wonder why the few voted no in all honesty.

I don't think anyone is saying they NEED to do it. But it would create easily rentable spaces if the floors are done correctly (current row houses have so few actual "rooms" in them) and provide better visibility for row home shops, which the pledge houses are NOT great at since they have no exterior space or large windows. Plus, people would be interested in buying them.

Good for them, my opinion is NO, this is would be a total waste of any development time. Add it to SWAG where it belongs.

There are plenty of tools and items a player can use to decorate their house to achieve this easy enough, no Dev time needed.

    Medieval style,
    [IMG]

The default row houses are serviceable for this, btw. Its what I was having residents do with their houses in the last few releases. I asked that the first floor be used as a storefront; the vendor visible through the window and well-lit so you could see him outside; a sales counter inside; and some display of wares outside. The back room on the first floor was set up as a storeroom. Upper floors were living quarters.

The main benefit of custom housing would be to serve the purpose a little better, with bigger windows so it isn't so difficult for people to see from outside. Then one could put more shelving in and display all the wares in the window. Of course, medieval-style with open stalls would also be nice. What we really really need in the end are shop signs.
