I cannot draw my sword!!!

I am in the starter are and grabbed the sword of the weapon rack to attack the practice dummy.
Despite the sword being in my character sheet, I cannot draw it.

 

So long as the sword is in the bottom left slot for your weapon, hit "Z" to draw it.

 

Yep, does nothing....totally perplexed.

 

Reloging wouldn't work either?

 

The only clue I have is what @Solstar said. If the sword is in your inventory (where it will be by default if you grabbed it) it does you no good at all. It needs to be "equipped".
Hit the C and I keys. You will see from the C key a paper doll type picture of your avatar, together with all equipment possible in various slots down each side. Find the sword in your inventory (look under Equipment) and drag it towards your paperdoll. The appropriate slot will light up for you (put me here...) Place the sword in that slot; your avatar is now equipped.
Useful to know also if you want to change to better weapons/armour etc.
