This doesn't seem to happen in at least one situation (sorry about the heavy breathing):

My character doesn't even get to appear and is then dead.

Note that there is an already reported issue with the Linux client crashing when the character dies, the above is the result of resuming after a death and a crash.

The invulnerability also makes it so you can't move upon entering a scene. Which leaves you constantly standing and having to wait on this feature when you could be experiencing the game.

This is one of several known issues for Linux. Do you know if this is observed if you start from world map? Might you have coconuts equipped by any chance? So many questions. :)

No coconuts, there's nothing to attack me in the world map so hard to test. In order for it to happen I have to resume after the death period has finished (because that just crashes me straight back out again too). It happened twice in this particular instance but the first time I had my browser open to check the forums so I just saw a flash of Eastreach Gap in the background and not what actually happened.

Basically this is another one of those things which it's just a pain to test while the death causes a CTD, so fix that first :)
