Is it possible that we can get FOIP?

I also backed Star Citizen years ago.
And i am absolutely aware that it is an entire different league money wise.
But i have to ask:
Is there a way we can get Face Over Internet Protocol - FOIP - chat for the game?
Perhaps with some kind of additional Crowed funding or Telethon thing.

SotA does a lot for RP-Gaming - and such a technology would bring RP to a new level.
And for me i am sure this would beat any form of VR-Headset by far.

Perhaps this can be the killer-feature SotA needs for a break through.
And it does not come with a gigantic overhead by any definition.
It is not adding much network traffic
and it does not need a new interaction interfaces like VR does.

seriously - i like my chars face, i allway try to come close to reality, but this would be a cool feature.

 

I'd rather this small, resource limited and personnel limited team focus on content, expanding the beastiary, adding in more stories and things we can do, craft and experience, well before they add in anything remotely similar to this.

Heck, I'd rather they add different races with differing bonuses/penalties to the game before anything like this.

What you are suggesting is more a cosmetic / art thing.
And what i suggest is a technical feature. That are entirely different jobs.
I do not think both are done bye the same people / programmers.
And as it is an idea from Chris Roberts... perhaps... that helps...

Of course you could be right...
thats the reason i wrote ”i have to ask”.
At this point i think the game needs ideas.
... and i just tried to help... if i am wrong - at least i tried something.

I'm not sure what type of RP you're referring to but this would totally break mine. I don't play a retired, east coast, IT professional with a New York accent. I play a 30-something clothing salesman from Oklahoma City with an Okie drawl. Brigham Dune looks different, sounds different and acts different than Mugly Wumple.

The only way your proposal would work is if they included facial morphing and voice fonts.

 

I am not sure what you mean.
Your Char would still have its face that he/she has now. But with your mimics. It would be like wearing a mask. Is this not the whole point of RP?
If you want to act different with different chars... do what ever you want. It will not stop you. It will help you.

And changing your voice... well you can still write... nobody force you to speak.
But changing your voice is pretty simple by modifying it with a software-voice-modulator.
Plenty of freeware can do this. In some VOIP-Programms it is already built in.
On my WoW-TS Server it was widely common. Elfs, Orks, Male, Female... we had all sorts of voice-modifications.
Could be done even in Sota direct i am sure. It is not a big deal today. And quit funny...
as long as you do not turn everything upside down and end up un-understandable.

I cant see where it breaks anything. It is an enhancement in every way. You just get deeper into your Char.
