Just for fun NPC

    I think we need a NPC somewhere in all of the towns throwing an unholy fit about all the adventurers smashing their barrels and crates.

    They should throw a fit as soon as one is smashed and they could even name the player specifically. They would rant until the crate or barrel respawns.

    Might have a pitcher and glass of water for them. They are going to be dry from all the ranting.

    Sort of related: I broke a crate in front of a NPC in one of the battle camps in R12. The NPC said he saw that.

    I'm writing Ardoris guards currently. There will now be an Ardoris guard complaining about this. This might be a recurring theme with other guards in other cities.

    Better yet: include an NPC carpenter who invents New Britannia's first re-useable barrels and crates- with lids.

    That's beyond my scope.

    I will say there is an unoccupied carpentry shop in Ardoris. It has decorations. It is marked as the Carpentry shop on the map. But there is no NPC vendor there. The carpenter is now working in a shop with Beatrice the realtor. My dialogue accounts for this. I also think this is a roleplay opportunity for a player carpenter to hang out there and sell their wares.

    I recall the barrel-destroying scheme of the humorous Bard's Tale game, and that's what came to mind when I read the initial post to this thread.

    I think it'd be nifty if there'd be a sort of "junker" NPC—someone who's keen to buy rusty swords, damaged armor, and the like, who turns around and repurposes them for use as other items. Broken longsword? The NPC'll take it, and now there's a brand new dagger or short sword! Adventurer smash up your crates & barrels? The NPC'll take `em and sell them back to those adventures as new wooden shields and torches! etc....
