What is the correct Love quest line step now after Necropolis?

The Love quest line lead me from Necropolis to the Midras Ruins with little instruction other than that. From there I found my way to the Crypt of the Avatar in that zone, where Samuel met up with me again, inside and downstairs. I was told to escort Samuel, but he didn't move. When I moved a short distance away, he vanished quickly (too quickly) with a fleeting note to meet him at the top. But he isn't at the top of the Crypt nor can I find him again. I explored the Crypt without him and found nothing of note to advance the quest without him. (cool location though). Where can I pick up Samuel again?

Then I read somewhere else that the Necropolis was supposed to take me to Malice not Midras right away, and this is was a old bug that I'm not supposed to go to Midras? Which this thread seems to support? https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/path-of-love.63050/

Is this quest line polished and I'm missing something obvious, or have others found this confusing?

Samael is supposed to walk down to the crypt and talk to the NPCs with you. Talking with them explains what happened there and which your next step should be (the town of Spite). You should be able to go back to the Crypt and have the event fire again.

I noticed that, while a Samael customer (yay for him... Or it), when I first visited the Crypt, there was nobody. Then, on another visit, I was greeted (but not followed) by Kardan. Then, third time, again nobody. I miss my Samael pal! And I'm stuck at the Crypt step, to boot...

It SHOULD be using the same flag that gates who enters with you in Necropolis. I suspect the ability added to enter the Crypt outside the quest broke that.

I had a very similar experience in R33. I did finally get Samael after I gave up for a while and came back to do it again in R34. I first visited and nobody. I climbed down the secret passage in a sarcophagus near the front of it and came back up and there was Kardan (but I had hired Samael and Sam was with me in Necropolis). But he wouldn't move. He'd just say something about them not letting us pass. Really just have to keep trying.

It has been misbehaving in this way for a while now. Had made a post about it supporting another's claim last release.

Same experience as Lifedragn just above: I had hired Samael but Kardane showed up, did not accompany me. Talked to the NPCs and fought to the apparent end of the dungeon, but no clues as to what to do next. (NPC dialog seemed to suggest 'fighting alongside them' which I interpreted as whacking the baddies, which was acomplished.)

I hired Samael, brought him with me, talked to Thanatos...

[10/23/2016 16:24:10] Thanatos: (to you) POSSUM TIBI OSTENDERE EX IPSIS MALEDICTUM - CURO QUOD EGO INVENIO RATIONEM - SI POTES - LIBERA MORTUIS
[10/23/2016 16:24:10] Samael: (to you) He does not know why this is happening but appeals to you to free the dead.
[10/23/2016 16:24:11] Dirk Hammerstrike: (to Thanatos) why
[10/23/2016 16:24:12] Thanatos: (to you) FAMA SECRETO POTENTIAE AD AQUILONEM DORMIERUNT MIDRAS DEFUNCTORUM, QUAE PERIERAT REPETERE CONGREGAVIT VIRTUTEM MORTUORUM
[10/23/2016 16:24:12] Samael: (to you) He has heard rumors of a power rising in the north that wishes to reclaim what was lost. Midras. He speaks of Midras. That is a fell place, avatar, a dark and unworthy ruin, from the time of the Obsidians, overrun with hostile undead. Yet.. I will follow. Your destiny is mine, it seems.
[10/23/2016 16:24:16] Dirk Hammerstrike: (to Thanatos) lost
[10/23/2016 16:24:17] Thanatos: (to you) POSSUM TIBI OSTENDERE EX IPSIS MALEDICTUM - CURO QUOD EGO INVENIO RATIONEM - SI POTES - LIBERA MORTUIS
[10/23/2016 16:24:17] Samael: (to you) He does not know why this is happening but appeals to you to free the dead.
[10/23/2016 16:24:22] Dirk Hammerstrike: (to Thanatos) Midras
    [10/23/2016 16:24:24] Thanatos: (to you) ...

And looking at my Quest Journal, it also indicates that I should go to Midras.

The exit I found after dropping down a long mineshaft, crossing a bridge and coming out from a rickety door, dumped me right into Midras... Which is too high level for me (and a PVP zone to boot...) so.... really I should go to Spite?

Yeah I would like to know how to fight Obsidian Golems.

They seem to be resistant to earth and fire magic. I did get a crit hit on one with an ice arrow.

Definitely susceptible to Water\Sun\Air from my experience.
