Mail Icon on mailboxes

The new icon on the mailboxes does not seem to fit at all and looks like it was just thrown on there. I would prefer it with no icon or something that is less obtuse and more aesthetically pleasing.

 

Yes. Agreed. Might just be an early version, but too modern and too black. Maybe something etched? Or metal?

 

I just bought mine from the add-on store. I absolutely love the new design.

{ Oh and just for the record I did not earlier want the one I have touched. Of course it hasn't been touched. I do reserve the right, as I am female, and this is just me mind you, to change my mind whenever I choose. }

However I do understand your point of view about symbols and am completely respectful of your dismay.

 

I like the symbol. I dont mind the ornate ones being gilded, but I hope it will eventually be usable just like the other symbols in the game, and match those for being etched.

 

Yeah I left feedback on it in QA... it was ignored. I hate it.

 

Yeah if it was etched in the wood or something that might help, but the icon itself is just not very good. In an upclose screen shot its passable, but the problem is from a distance it does not really even look like a mail because of the odd wax seal and ribbons on it even though the icon is disproportionately large in contrast to the box. Maybe the simple mailboxes you remove the icon and leave it for the fancy addon store one?

 

Which is EXACTLY what I suggested... even went as far to do 2 mockups as alternative if they had to have something.

Yeah I think these are simple and not bad. Seeing your mockup with the "N.B. MAIL" on it reminds me of what is typically on a mailbox, the persons last name! It would make WAY more sense to have a mailbox that had the owners name on it.

 

Ya, not a fan of the decal on the crafted mailbox. Totally ruined the look on my house. The ornate version isn't as bad IMHO.

 

except that anyone who has permissions on a lot can check their mail there.

 

Good point, but might be a fun option anyways!

 

I think for the period, something like a thick, embossed red wax seal would be gorgeous, but I don't think that would make as much sense on the outside of the mailbox. There are other modern things in the game to make the envelope icon make sense, but maybe experiment a little more with the execution. Even just changing it to a dark brown and tweaking the opacity and multiplying the effect could give a nice stained effect. (If the artwork is created in non-photoshop tools the tecnique might be a little different, but you get the idea...)

It is handled much better on the Add-on Store version, so I am hoping the flat black one was just draft dropped in at the last minute.

I happen to like the new wall mailbox but the positioning of the handle guarantees you'll be scraping your knuckles raw against the wall. The handle should be positioned more to the front of the cover.
