A lot of players find Survey Distance useless. This is especially true for a skill tree like Field Dressing, where you know the location of the resource immediately.

So the idea would be to branch this into a type of Tracking skill.

    - For Field Dressing, you'd see animal tracks
    - For Mining, you'd see ore veins
    - For Forestry, you'd see stray leaves
    - For Foraging, you'd see loose seeds and flowers

I've posted on Tracking before, and I think the best setup for this is for players to see some of the tracks and traces by default, but the skill would allow you to see more - older tracks, farther tracks, etc.

There would be many ways to do this. One would be to replace Survey with Tracking, while another would be to make Survey a prerequisite for Tracking. One would be to make Tracking a passive skill, while another would be to make it an active skill you use to reveal more - which would be cool in the sense that you'd have a tracking stance, and couldn't perform it while fighting or be interrupted, and where you could better RP a ranger.

Rada Torment and Adam Crow like this.
