I too call shenanigans! Episode 5 is still alive and well on our long term planning calender. Please remember folks, rumormongering and knowingly spreading misinformation is against forum rules and can result in either a temporary or even a permanent ban from the forums.

    Hey,

I don't want to be a pain in the *, but I don't understand why you don't, or won't replace the background with a freely available high resolution image ?

I finally figured out how to download on that site, so I can get your very nicely done work, but it bothers me the other maps look so nice and yours, which has an interesting layout, is pixelated.

I know you've responded multiple times, but I guess I don't understand what's stopping you from using a new base layer ? Are you not using software like gimp or PS to make this ?

I have to do a lot of prep work to add base layers. It's not like using photoshop where you slide things in and out. This program uses lat/long coordinates and each time I bring in a new base layer I have to register this layer with the coordinate grid. It's not an automated process.

I could do it the way you're thinking, but with the program I'm using I wouldn't be able to add expansion maps because the base layers would all end up using the same set of coordinates and therefore one layer would just end up siting on top of the other.

If you want to see future expansion maps laid out with a seamless connection, you gotta do it the way I'm going about it and that is to manually registering each layer with the coordinate system.

Tl;dr: I can't slide the base layers around like I'm using photoshop.

This is great! You should consider doing different maps plotting different events and things in game of note worthiness, as a sort of series as time continues. Different adventures you or others players have. Could get someone to write a little story to go with sort of thing. Would be really neat. Id love to publish a weekly or monthly adventure series like that with maps.. very appealing. Drop me a note if your ever interested. Sort of a "Count Napoli's historical Atlas" thing.

Hmm.. if you found enough official lore things to do them on, could even put together some sort of book.

Don't mind me.. just seeing cool projects I don't have the time for so encouraging others *grins*

Maybe you could put together a Cartographers Association!

Thanks Stiles. You have some interesting ideas. I've always planned to put together more types of maps as data is revealed through official releases and now that you suggest it, even game play of noteworthy events would be a neat way to help archive the community's sandbox play. I too had the idea to produce a book eventually, but I'm not familiar with how book writing in Ultima was done, but I think it is something you'll likely see in the distant future.

    Regards!

Count Napoli recently agreed to become Master Cartographer of Poets' Circle. Perhaps everyone should join forces? All I know is that we can accomplish more together than apart :)

Why wouldnt you just put this through googlemaps API and use the overlays instead of hard baking in features?

And also allow for highly zoomable areas?

Here is one tiled up based on LoneStrangers high res map above, took 3 minutes to tile into chunks:

    www.onarom.com/sota

** THIS IS NOT A PRODUCTION SERVER, bear with the speed and no hammering please.

All you need to do is make the data overlays, which is easily community sourced.

Especially when it comes to obscure data like resource locations, quest requirements, population densities, roads, etc...

if I can spare some lunch time I will see if I can add some layers.
