    I wasn't joking.

I thought that seemed like fun. No? You just want easy mines to farm endlessly without risk?

Eventually, that's what all mines will be, if players play the game as intended. It will simply be a matter of time.

I do, in point of fact and he isn't currently successfull because there is no demand, but he is building his brand right now and poising himself for the moment when cooking is in demand because when players finally need that passive regen or the other good buffs that haven't been released yet, people will think, "who do I know that cooks? Oh yeah, @Briar Vesper does".

I don't really see the big issue with mining here. In a little over an hour I can easily get 100-120 ore of both gold and silver. That's 5-6 enchants and 5-6 masterworks every hour or so. The enemies in the mines are a joke if you've spent enough time raising your combat abilities. Or you could have leveled your taming for a tamed pet to help. Or you could have just bought a tamed Ferocious Wolf Spider like I did with the gold I got while leveling my combat skills. The tamed pets make things significantly easier, at least until the changes to tamed pets kick in. But having that pet has made it significantly easier to raise my own combat skills, so now I can solo the mine without a summon out. Everything worth something in this game is supposed to take work. It's not suppose to be easy immediately and just handed to you. And when you craft something nice with those enchantments or masterworking, you can easily get some money back (which I then drop into buying more gold ingots at 120 a piece). Just yesterday I sold a simple +6 Pine wand for 5000 gold that was just skill leveling fodder that happened to turn out decent. Sure, things will blow up and you'll lose money. It sucks when that happens, but that's the whole purpose of raising the masterworking and enchanting skills... Eventually, you'll blow stuff up a lot less often and therefore waste less time and/or money.

And honestly, the price of silver right now is way overpriced imo. It takes only a little more effort than gold to mine, and you get the same amount of it per run of the Elysium mine as you do gold. Yet it's much more expensive than gold. These prices will of course change for better or worse.

Those statements fall into one of three categories, IMO.
    1- Complete guesses
    2- You're clairvoyant
3- You have access to inside information that we mortals do not.

So, which of the 3 is it ?

Yet mastercrafting isn't one skill among many - it's twelve skills, literally more than half the "Production" section of the crafting tree. 13 if you count enchanting. Is there some evidence of this concept of skill trees branching off other skill trees in the next 6 months you refer to? That certainly seems unlikely from my vantage.

There are spots with a good amount of nodes that dont have spawns around them, but you would need someone to get you there at least, not protect you the whole time mind you, just escort you to the location.

Am I the only one that pays attention when the devs talk in hang outs? They're not done with the crafting system. This is an iterative process. Masterworking wasn't even mentioned until a few releases ago, then it expanded. You don't think we'll see more of that?

I do expect to see Masterworking expanded as well as some others.

But when you speak of "entire crafting trees" that are to come, that I have not heard.

I can see changes happening to our current set of crafting trees, but entirely new trees ?

And yes, BDF - I do pay attention to what is said in the hangouts - so please don't be condescending.

they have stated there are major balance and skill additions on the way

    1. look at cooking - no tree at all
    2. agriculture - same thing
    3. they said most things will be retweaked

chris and several dev have stated there are even combat skills they have made but not added yet.

If you look at the ENTIRE refinement tree for example, it's a little lacking in depth.

I certainly believe those things will be addressed -- but that's exactly my point about the whole "in 6 months it will be so different" concept. Dev resources are limited. They still have entire trees to get to. Refining is still virtually useless once you can complete the advanced materials. And that's just on the crafting side of things. Are we really to believe there will be substantial incoming tree changes to the three with the most leaves? In six months time? That would certainly be nice, but I just don't see how. Which leaves masterworking as the prime reason for three skill trees. Anything less than masterworking can be performed at virtually the same level by a skill 40 person as a skill 140.

It seemed like when skill 40 tamers were able to get much of the value (albeit with a major gold expenditure to do so) of skill 140 tamers that got pounced on. As it should be.

The thread started with the concept of encouraging a particular "tweak" - specificially to improve mining yields. There are other potential solutions for sure. Some are tweaks in different places. Many are bigger overhauls -- but that seems unlikely. So noting that things can still be adjusted is, in fact, the nature of the thread.

I want to make video games. I don't want to study programming, I don't want to work in an office environment, I just want to make video games.

There are plenty of other opportunities than just being a programmer. Go draw something :)

I wasn't a miner in UO, but I am pretty certain they were threatened by PK's. At least it wasn't without risk. :)

    Depended on where you mined.
