Anything you get from quests has no effect on balance because none of it is usable.

The Orator quests they have been doing every release are fun. I do like those.

Actually... there are many more examples... the virtue armors, the 3 day blessings (although those aren't technically items...), etc...

So, when you ask someone to craft something, you expect them to provide the materials too?

When I ask someone to craft something, I give them whatever they're asking for the completed item (usually gold)... if I'm getting the mats myself, I might as well craft the item myself. They're the crafter, they know what they need to do the job. I'm not going to go on a wiki to figure out what's needed for the item that I'm not going to craft.

Do you give McDonalds the meat and the bread whenever you want a hamburger?

The specifics are irrelevant. The point I'm trying to make is that you don't want to build an environment that encourages the crafter prioritize his dailies over trading with other players.

I'm not sure how I feel about BoDs... I DID enjoy them in UO... maybe a bit too much as near the end, that was what most of my playtime revolved around (PvM in specific spots for junk items to fill junk deeds that could be turned in en-masse for new (hopefully better) deeds, mine for needed metals to fill deeds, fill deeds based on rewards, lather rinse repeat). I also think that the resource system will need to be further developed to make something like BoDs a thing. The problem is that it became about The Grindâ„¢ and after Imbuing was added (also a good system), the use of Runics was lessened a good bit IMO.

Maybe something like BoDs at some point, but I'm not sure that I want a repeat of them simply because they were in UO.
