That was the point of my post and yes its fully true all around period. Other then that, prove how the post is not a fact in this game. I gave examples.

Kind of off topic, but ok.

I'm level 108, archery, moon (specialist), light armour (specialist), plus i use healing touch and healing ray. Wear all leather armour and a bow.

    I can solo :

Sieges - all cabalist (been able to do this since level 95), though if more than 1 depends on the combo if i can do it.
Torc Dawl - been able to do that since lvl 90.
Upper tears (minus the last wave).
All Tier 5s (lvl 80 by the time i could do them all i reckon).
All of Ulfheim (i think this is no tier 5 anymore?).
Phoenix (though very slow so don't do it)
All the mid tier bosses <4k HP.

I would say the rise mage room, heard it changed this release, so not retested.

    Regards

I’ve been working an Archer build from day one. You can do well with it but at somepoint you will need to be very specific with your build. Multi-shot helps with the mobs. Chain lightning helps with stuns. Disabling Shot is a must. Ignite weapon is key now too.

The harder part is the balance of defense and healing. Get a water elemental, it’s a must. I used Augmented Leather so I would fizzle less with spells. You can use Bone but it fizzled too much for me. Get all of the light armor skills. But if you are fighting death and fire dealers (e.g. Rise Mages) then be prepared with Douse, Shield of Ice, Celestial Blessing, etc.

Start rocking potions. Imbued health/focus pots. Make sure you have Dash/Sprint GM’d and get a Fleet Flute so you can run around/kite.

Being a Solo archer, for me at least, has not been easy but I can manage. I’ve working on a near pure Death Mage build and the first time I took it for a spin was awesome! Like on Sieges I wrecked it. I can now bounce between the two.

Also, get some an awesome bow. I have a few I just crafted and would be happy to send one to you. Just tell me what you are looking for. They are all exceptional, masterworked 3x and enchanted 2x.

I think i forst soloed torc dawl around high 70 or goin on 80.

High 80’s befor i realized i just needed a crossbow to finish off cabalists.

Can kill reapers and garem sloe and worked out a way i think ill be able to solo demons again. Currently level 95 or so.

    Can handle maelefic lich lords/vagabonds.

I can not handle the rise mage room pre r58

What you can handle is far more dependant on your gear and build than you adv lvl. In fact your adv level matters least. I just made a new character, pure mage, got the starting skills to 20 and unlocked deck mode. Less thanadv lvl 10 and was killin stuff in tier 4 zones, comfortably farming tier 3, where every creature is red to me

Any tips? I can handle them, except when they use confusion. It ruins my ability to kite, and in light armor, two or three hits does me in.

Kiting with confusion is hard, the way i have found is to pick a direction, if it is not forward then use the mouse to correct to the direction I need to go.
If it is forward pick another and do as above.

It does however take a lot of practice, keep up your speed buffs so that you have a decent range away to give you time to do this.

Temna is very hard, as he hits even kiting and hits hard. I found standing behind the cart so im in cover(but so is he) or using the tree opposite to keep breaking line of sight works. Then i can heal through the reduced damage. If he enrages though even the cover from the cart is not always enough so i fall back to the tree line of sight, again not easy in the confused state though. Took me ALOT of deaths to be able to do this.

With the cart way i use my meteor shower to do most of the damage as this is not affected by cover.

Forgot to say, practice this straight after you have already died somewhere else 2 or 3 times, this way your death decay pool has already been mostly emptied so the further deaths are not that much XP, and the XP you got from the catapult bit will probably more than cover the XP loss.

Also gear makes a huge difference, as i said in the earlier post, I use gear with STR not DEX as primary, in fact because of the moon, i take INT over DEX. So for me STR > INT > DEX. The extra HP i find massively outweigh the advantage of extra dex. I also take straight weapon damage over crit chance, as crit has diminishing returns, and while kiting i find im auto attacking quite a lot, so I stack attack speed (imbued speed strings rather than precision), furry and reckless stance (as my DR is so low the negative is not a big issue, especially against a creature doing infrequent big hits - assuming you are kiting correctly) .

Temna used to be one of the easiest, because he would always be repositioning if you kept moving. Then they made him stop and shoot more often.

I think that ultimately, light armor is situational and depends more on tactics. The problem is there are so many instances where those tactics are negated, that heavy becomes the better option in almost all cases. I can solo an obsidian troll, but not the one in the Rise, because there's nowhere to move. I solo a wyvern very easily, but not two wyverns, or a wyvern and a Beraga. I have soloed two cabalists, but not when either of them uses confusion. They did a great job of making the two armor types functionally very different, but then time after time have removed and nerfed what makes light armor work, because @Chris thinks it's cheating to go into a fight and never get hit, even though a) it takes a lot of effort and player skill not to get hit, and b) getting hit in light armor more than a few times means death.

Yes, As Arkah said, using light armour is playing this game on hard mode. But if you don't mind playing on hard mode, it can be A LOT of fun working out how to kill things.

Lately ive dealt with temna specifically by fighting her in the mercenary camp. Hide behind a cart and jump to shoot over it between her shots. The cover makes her damage managable

I cant handle temna paired with anyone, but aside fromtemna the rest i just use sprint and wolfspeed to kite with a crossbow

Yeah, I'm torn. I usually have more fun playing a light armor/archer than any other build type. I don't really want to give it up, but I'm not having fun either.

Then I suggest changing, just go chain chest to get the heavy armour tree then light everywhere else to still get speed on boots etc.
Buy a fleet flute and dash (from air). Only really losing the attack speed and innate speed buffs. Can still kite with a bow but with the advantage of the HUGE STR buffs in heavy armour and glancing blow > evasion.

If you aren't having fun change. The combat mechanics in this game are very different to any MMO/RPG I have played before. So what you think is only a light armour build can probably be done in the right heavy armour build too. This is not a re-skinned version of MMO or RPG you played before. Took me about 6 month to realise I should ignore everything about how I THINK stuff works and test how it actually works.

Isn't Purify supposed to remove confusion? And isn't life specialization supposed to make it so that it reapplies itself every 3 seconds for some period of time?

It does, and so do smelling salts. But their confusion is a "curse" that recasts every few seconds.

Honestly, if something in the light armor tree gave a resistance to confusion effects, I'd never even consider switching, no matter how tough it makes other things.

Thanks to @Chrystoph Reis for suggesting Death Shield and @macnlos for suggesting a Water Elemental. Things are a bit better now. :)

The hitching is the only thing killing it now. :(

Dodge is not as amazing as Glancing Blow in Heavy Armor tree, in my opinion.

And for Blinding Shot... the "Combat Parry Debuff" doesn't even show up on the target. Is the mob actually affected? Hard to say, since Combat Parry Debuff is indeed mostly pointless for a Ranged player going solo. When Specializations first came out, at least it was displaying as additional "Dexterity Debuff," which would at least hint at it being useful to a Ranged player.

If you dodge something, you take zero damage and if there was a debuff involved then you don't take that as well. Dodge also works against targeted magic. The only thing that's not as good about dodge is that you can't get as much of it as you can damage avoidance.

Yes, the issue is I hardly see it Dodges compared to what I'd expect with it, even within the 2 seconds of activating the skill where it has 3x the effectiveness. If it guaranteed one dodge after using, it'd be fantastic, but it doesn't, so it isn't. At least in my opinion. The Light Armor tree just doesn't stand equal in comparison to the Heavy Armor tree in usefulness to any build.

Another change I think would greatly increase the usefulness of light armor is if your Dodge chance went up while moving.
