    My heart is so heavy hearing this news. The stories you have shared of your mom over the years made it abundantly clear that your relationship was special. She must have been an amazing lady to have created such good creative people.

    The mother you had was indeed special for not every person has that wonderful opportunity to be loved like that.
    Although the pain will be strong for a long time I know that her love surrounds you and will bring deep joy as your life continues toward being the great man she taught you to be. To be great because she taught you to have great curiosity and great love.

    People we've loved never leave us. Part of them lives on inside of us, helping make us the people we become. Richard, we hope some comfort can be found knowing that your mom's grace and greatness will be with us here through you and all others whom she touched in her time on earth. And for that we are thankful.

    Dear Richard and family,

    I am sorry to hear of your loss. Reading what your mum meant to you it was obvious that she was the reason behind your imagination and need to reach for the stars. The world has lost a great mentor today given the role she played in your life and subsequently the lives of your many fans through the creative works you have delivered throughout the years.

    I am a strong believer in the most important thing in life being not your immediate success but what legacy you leave behind for future generations. Your mum would be very proud of what you have accomplished to date and the legacy she has left behind in you.

    As many of you have noted here, Richard has spoken often about the bond that he and his mother shared.

    The way he described his life with her reminds me of my own mother - who is also gone from us...
    I had never seen Helen Mary Walker Garriott until I visited her Obituary and found this wonderful image of her.
    With deepest sympathy for you, Richard - and for those, like me. who had never seen Helen, here is the image from her obituary, along with an image of Richard that I picked up somewhere.

    Her smile and understanding eyes.
    Like my mother, she'll always be a heartbeat away.........
