Problem: If you want to contact another player who is not already a friend, you're limited to whispering to them. This requires them to be online and to be paying attention to their chat window. Odds of catching someone are slim.

Examples: I see I have a new neighbour (someone who placed a house next to mine) and I want to contact them to introduce myself. Or I want to contact someone who has a carpentry vendor near my house to see if they want to set up a regular contract for wood I gather.

Solution: Ideal would be something like an in-game email system.

Can't you just go near that player and use local chat /l ? Then that other person see it on his/hers screen also... No? ;)

In Anarchy Online... another mmo,.... this was solved by saving the whispers that were made when you were offline.
Technically that would be a very easy solution as well, I just dont think Garriott is aware of that :/

I am strongly in favor of a player driven mail system, utilizing the mechanics of the existing mail quest. There are a couple threads out there that discuss this in detail.

That's assuming they're online and physically close to you - neither of which is necessarily true in the examples I gave. You could go for weeks without running into your neighbour in game if you have different schedules, for example.

That would work too as long as whispers opened a new tab so they didn't get lost... not sure if the current implementation does that (don't think so, could be wrong though).

I've put in specific suggestions for a mail system and how that might work.

The best you can do at the moment is to place a public cache chest on your lot and put paper or books inside for people to leave messages.

    True.

This sounds good and that would be great if you could see those whispers for example at loading screen before you enter game...

In AO this is some of the first text you will see when you log on. It really works well :)

Lol, I just clicked "like" on a post from 2013. The author is going to be mighty confused, if he even still reads these forums.
