I have been trying to find some correlations between the looting difficulties and actions taken in game that may be related. I have been playing with my adventuring skills page open so I can watch the Experience pool as I fight. So far it looks like there is a delay on some kills between the time the mob falls and the experience is posted to your total. And it looks like if you try to loot the body before the experience is posted then looting fails. Unfortunately when the experience finally posts, you still cannot loot the corpse if you have already tried to loot it. Every time I wait until the experience "posts", I have a successful loot.

This is preliminary and just thought I would post to see if anyone can confirm, or shoot it down so I don't waste my time investigating further.

the delay on undead is because undead corpses can be rezzed by the undead mages, so it doesn't completely let go of the loot/exp immediately in case they're gonna get another go-round.

Makes sense. Perhaps it used to be that you could loot the skeletons if they had not been resurrected yet. If they changed it so that you can not loot until there was no chance of a rez, this could have caused the unseen consequence that attempted looting before the Experience gain prevents looting later. And if you wait to loot, then looting will be successful. I have to give this a few more trials to make sure it is reproducible.

    copy/paste from other post:

    AFAIK
after killing enemys the cursor goes blue on their corpse - don't click it to try to loot, because after clicking with a blue cursor the corpse is unlootable (even with green cursor later on!)
only loot after the cursor got green (can take a couple of minutes to do so but then you can loot them)

    so the bug here is:
    - in R42 you could loot with green cursor and blue cursor,
    - in R43 - now - looting with blue cursor renders the corpse unlootable

I get a red reticle and a green cursor. I have never seen the blue cursor. Perhaps this is a different situation. I am using auto attack. Perhaps that's when you get the blue cursor? My looting fails are always with a green cursor.

I don't use auto-attack so my recticle turns also blue on corpses which are not lootable at that time.
clicking then renders the corpse unlootable (unless exititing to main menu and back as someone stated), so when the rticle or the cursor goes green no looting

Sorry I am not clear enough. Getting old and perhaps my com skills are diminishing. When I successfully loot, I have a red reticle and a green cursor. When looting is unsuccessful, I get the exact same red reticle and green cursor. The color of the cursor and reticle do not give me a clue that the mob is unlootable. Oh and BTW, leaving the scene and returning makes no difference. The mobs still cannot be looted when I return. Like I say... so far the only thing I see that is common with the mobs that I cannot loot is that the experience gump has not updated before I try to loot. I am not sticking by this as the reason yet because even I do not have a lot of confidence in my data so far. My farming area is pretty intense and I may be getting confused with all the mobs laying around and keeping track of which ones are updating and which are not. My point in the OP is to suggest that there may be something there to look at if anyone is interested.

@Rentier Between bites of this humble pie, I found that the blue cursor does indeed exist. I play with my saturation low and perhaps this contributed. In any case, waiting for the cursor to turn green seems to work. Thank you for your replies which forced me to take a good look. In a sense, I was on the right track since the cursor turns green when the experience points are rewarded. :)
