I started a new avatar today as a bow user for the first time. The user has torches from the start, but a bow requires two slots and a new avatar has no chance of multiple decks, so torches are useless. So that means they have to stop playing when it is dark, even if they started when it was dark. They probably need a light spell.

The light spell is no longer included? Even level 1?

    For reference:

    Light with light spell

Light with moon gemmed chest piece

    Light with night vision

Each has it's advantages & disadvantages.

Night vision gives great range and clarity but is crap for harvesting ores & reagents or deciphering color-coded clues in puzzle areas. It also doesn't work in pitch black darkness.

Light spell gives the greatest illumination but is glaring when used within enclosed spaces or tunnels where it's impossible to shift the perspective high enough to avoid the problem. It also disrupts any stealth skill or spell that you have on you. On top of that it has the shortest duration compared to the other alternatives.

The Moon gem light attribute (currently working on chest pieces only i think) gives the best light IMO but it requires a level of crafting skill and RNG luck not suitable for beginners.

Why not give new avatars a light emitting necklace with no other stats or special properties ? That way they don't have to grapple with yet another complexity (asides from the deck, combat system, chat system etc) from the very beginning.

    Just my 2 cents :)

There should be either Light or Night Vision given out at the beginning since every skill train costs 100 gold, which can be a lot at the beginning of the game.

I am almost 100% sure the last time I started anew on R45 QA there was a light spell in my skill book, I think I had to add it to the bar? But not 100% sure on that. . .

... Or... (this might be crazy)... maybe they can stop forcing players to cast spells JUST to play the damn game.

Yea I don't particularly enjoy how dark "dark" is. Pretty much over those days where I need a pitch black shithole to let me know it's night/no light. Convenience vs realism and I'm definitely on the side of convenience. At least make this **** a slider so if someone wants to realism, they've got it, and the rest of us that don't give a flying fk don't have to put up with it.

I just checked this and you are correct. There is a light spell in the glyphs. But how is a new user to know look for this? I assumed that all my spells were on the deck, so I did not even look for any others before hitting the trainer.

Uhm... discovery? I don't know :-/ They should probably tell you to "press K and look at all of your available starting skills" at some point near the beginning...
