I have 167k experience in my adventure pool. I clicked on each skill tree in crafting and adventure and set all skills to maintain and a couple to unlearn. Then I killed a bandit and a bay horse (accidentally) in a tier 3 area. My adventure experience pool dropped from 1657,401 to 167,158.

Any ideas on what could be causing the drop?

Certainly I have enough experience to be training some skills I'm just trying to get to a baseline where my adventure exp pool is increasing when I kill stuff and then I'll set a couple skills to train.

Thanks much for any insight anyone has!

You must have something training, and the higher the skill, the more it takes, and the higher your pool, the more it takes, and potion of guidance really makes it pull from the pool.

Bring up your skills window while you fight stuff and watch your xp value. Don't use any skills and see if your pool goes down. If it does you have innates turned up somewhere. If it stays steady, try to use your skills. If the pool goes down, you've found the skill that is using up your xp.

You are definitely training something. Look again at all your innates, especially in the bottom trees in the skills window (Focus, Subterfuge, Tactics, etc). Also pay attention to the right side of your screen where by default, skills that gain levels will be displayed.

Its super easy to miss a skill. You probably have an innate skill turned up somewhere.

Personally... I would keep up STR, Health, DEX, INT type innates on at all times in the lower levels. You want those going up. Unless you really really just want to get your Exp Pool up then that's a different story. I have never turned mine off. The more of those stats I can get the better.

1,490,243 is a lot of experience for killing a bandit and a horse.

Are you sure it wasn't a highlander and you just experienced the quickening?

I think what is happening is you have a skill doing down and none going up. When you use your skills it will pull xp from the skills marked down and add it to your pooled xp.

Your first number is jumbled up a bit and I am guessing it was 165,401 to 167, 157. Right?

Sorry for the confusion. It was supposed to read 167,401 to 167,157 - my XP was dropping. As suggested, the drop turned out to be caused by some innates that were still set to train. I really thought I set them to maintain as I flipped through every skill tree befor, so that’s puzzling but I won’t worry about it unless keeps happening.

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Please note that in the skill UI you can right click a whole tree and set to maintain. That way you don't need to do the skills one by one and potentially miss one.

Good point, @Spoon.... but some skill settings are currently whacky.
I still open every tree and check it.. Not that time consuming in order to be safe and happy. ;)

Also, a handy tip, if you Right click a skill tree symbol on the left, you can set all skills in that tree to maintain at once without clicking each skill individually :)

What?!?!! Wow, mind blown! I actually went through and manually clicked each thing down and double checked it. Thank you for that info :)!

However... I've always left my STR, DEX, INT, Health innates going.

Be aware that Train Str/Int/Des are the most expensive skills to train in the game, and there no way to set them to maintain. You won't see huge xp requirements until you get into the 60s.

What? I'm sure I set mine to maintain just the other day after leveling them a bit.

Are you perhaps confusing them with the specialization skills?
