Ya archeage's system unique it it's own way was flawed. As pointed out large guilds get away with crimes when their guild is on jury. Time served was too lax and it just made people want to commit more crimes, though the process being on the jury was fun.

I just read up on this system today and I was amazed. I watched a lot of videos of it. Is it flawed? Yes...there are a number of things I would do differently, especially for SOTA. But wow do I like that Trial by Jury system. Very cool!

I still play the alpha since the day you could play it. Good game, plenty of potential and fun. The criminal system gets over used but the finding clues, jury and capturing process was fun.

Here's a very good summary video of the Archeage Jury System:

After watching a lot of these videos...one thing that's clear to me is that if SOTA has a system similar to this, the punishment time would need to be a minimum of 30 minutes and then go as long as 24 hours. Maybe allow players to create "laws" that impact how long punishment is?

    Good summary of the system.

Yeah ive always liked the player driven justice system of this game!
I think the cost of such stuff has deterred this game from doing alot, at least thats what one of the devs said if i remember correctly, the funding for that game are way high! in the 5 million bracket or something.

I've been playing ArcheAge here and there, and I like the justice system, especially since it is voluntary. One thing I would change from the ArcheAge model- take it off general chat(which I despise to begin with) and put it where people can choose to check it out of not. Notice boards, npc at the tavern, maybe the town crier could give current cases if inquiry is made. Maybe a stream inside the courtroom for the drama crowd...just don't make it to where everyone has to be involved or deal with it constantly. It's awesome to give the players who suffer at the hands of others to get their day! Maybe player owned towns can do their own type where the owner presides...some feudal justice!

I agree with justice being needed but ppl could abuse it if someone doesnt like you they will probably sentence u to max penalty regardless of guilt

I've been playing AA also lately, and the Justice System isn't perfect by any means, but they made a try, and I give them credit for that. On the time penalty, you get a choice, as a juror, from the amounts of time the Judge tosses up as options for the crime. You choose from those options, or choose 'not guilty'. I think a huge innovation is possible, and Richard Garriott is known for innovation. I wish the SotA team would/could do it, but at this point, I'd be surprised.

But the idea is still very possible with future episodes. We don't know what the community involvement will be after EP1, so this may be your time to make the case!

We did make the case. Many of us did. It was a long, involved and very innovative Thread. Not only one Thread, actually. In any case, we'll see.

I kind of like the idea of a Justice System, but at the moment I'm more worried about the game mechanics that will be used for the story/quests (see other threads on this) and wouldn't want them spending more time on MMO type things like a justice system... episode 2 or 3 perhaps?

Ridiculous double standard here. I hate this kind of crap. Let me pick what I do and do not want to cover, whether I play a female or a male.
(Archeage gave us our new Founders' "desert assassin platemail")
Notice how the man is covered up? How is the female protected? I'm not going to wear that. That needs a Justice system right there. :p

There should definitely be a court room that anyone can access so we can RP it if needed. There will be cases where roleplay will have to punish certain folks and a court room would be a nice add to a main NPC town.
