As we go forward into the bold world of writing, perhaps there is time to think of it from origin to product and uses in between and beyond:

    The Path to Inscription:
Woodcutters scour the landscape searching for wood to become wood pulp. Alternatively, it's a byproduct of those out to add color to their world by those bark.

There are logical additions to the straight wood pulp recipe, cotton being the most readily available, or, wood salvage if we are in the mood to recycle.

In addition to a cotton crop, papyrus could be added to the list of agriculture options. Vellum could also be added, when the animal husbandry system is fleshed out.

Inscription as a skill tree could start developing from here, adding in tie ins to the agriculture system, the flora gathering system, the alchemy system (for magical inks), and a host of other skill interactions.

Certain papers could be better for fizzle rates, give better effects, etc. but take higher skill levels to craft or inscribe.

Specialty fonts for books and scrolls for printing could be added as skill increases or premium add ons.

Cartography could also tie in for supplies needed as well.

This is a timeless request to promote discussion, not one with deadlines.

I've suggested this as Scribe's skill tree, Scrivenry, or whatever you would call it, that would use a Scribe's Desk as a workstation. Skills would be like translation, inscription, cartography, bookbinding, etc.

Scrolls would use magical ink, instead of the paper itself being enchanted with magic. So, in order to create a scroll, you would obtain the ink first from an alchemist, and then use the ink to craft the scroll. Stuff like dragon's blood ink, etc. The ink would then be applied to a scroll with the help of ciphers.

I've actually been working on a post for this but have been held back by some other work I'm doing.

    Hey, look over there:

Oh, those were the days of hope and grandeur.
I still would have prefered if the 'papers' were actually parchments made from animal skins and if the Cover or Closure were actual items that determined the look and feel of the thing.

Then it's time to raise a little hell about the topic again. :) :) :)

Maybe it will get a deep dive as a cross-section of how the skill system ties itself into interdependency with the other systems.
