100 % agree. @Baron Drocis Fondorlatos : if you don't like the scrolls just don't use them! But please don't dictate your favourite style of gameplay to us others ;)

You have not given a single actual example. You say they are being abused, you dont say who, where, give screen shots or evidence. You insinuate that this is somehow going to run or destroy things yet you have no example of how or where this is actually effecting anything at all. So please dont point a flashlight at someone else and tell them to give proof when you have given nothing but conjecture, assumptions, theories and vague descriptors.

You just seem to not like that people are asking for friend requests to teleport places. And you're allowed to think that. But you very much are effectively trying to make the developers make a change to enforce your playstyle onto others whether you see it or not.

Youre welcome to your opinions and your hopes for what should or should not be out there. But dont expect us to accept something is happening just because you say so. And I would appreciate you not framing arguments this way in order to push your playstyle on others.

What I see from this discussion is this: You have zero experience as to how the scrolls are made. You have admitted that. The fact that you think that the scrolls can be a cost timer of some such proves you have no idea about how the item is actually procured and used in the world as it is. You also have zero people on your friends list so you obviously dont know much about how they work, by your own admission. You play as an admitted hermit. You literally both asking how everything works in the same thread where you are basically saying "This should be changed, because trust me i know things". You then say things are happening, but you dont actually show evidence as to what or where. Then youre turning around and saying to someone else that they arent giving proof and their proof should be more like yours? And this is all in the same thread so it's not like we have to go far to confirm all of this.

I am all for suggestions to make the game better if you think it will make the game better. But this is absurd.

Wrong once again Baron.... What you failed to grasp is my reference to that part of a game many of us played for years - where we could travel wherever we wanted, whenever we wanted.
20 years of being able to travel all over Sosaria quickly and easily. Did instant travel break immersion or the economy ? Nope. What it did do was let us find friends, fun, adventure, and trade in all parts of that world - whenever we felt like it, and do so quickly. Instant travel WAS and IS a primary reason why UO has lasted all these years.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that your response to this will be - Well UO didn't have "Regional Economies" .

That is true. Well guess what..... Whatever form this so called "Regional Economy" eventually takes, if it trumps being able to quickly and easily join friends on the far side of the world - if it makes exploring other regions painful ( as in our current BORING cross country runs to the far side of the world ) then there will be zero economy because there will be zero players - because of ideas like this one. One that removes the last vestige of FUN - in a GAME no less.

You can keep any "Regional Economy" that forces the boredom that your idea here represents. ( See, I'm attacking your message - not you personally. If I did that - my post would go poof, and my time would be wasted ).

    Exactly! Stop neutering the game...

I don't want to be rude, but how does teleporting stop me from completing quests or disrupt my risk/reward gameplay? Are they being abused by certain groups? Sure, but constantly removing and neutering the game is ruining it to a far greater degree. And to be honest, I don't give a rip about regional economy. This is a game, it should be treated like one.

For a game that wasn't supposed to be a grind, this game is becoming a massive grind.

There is no need to make this personal. It's not like any of us decides anything.

Quick question, if a person can teleport past a control point, why are they there?

I mean, why are control points there if they are so easily ignored?

A design concept that impedes the "Social" aspect of an online game is unfortunately bound to fail, as this sort of game lives or dies by the social-side of things.

The devs must have had a significantly harder-core vision in the earlier days, and have since softened the system when they found it was unappealing to the audience they were trying to please.

Not sure what will happen in the future with those older concepts now... Laid to rest with the rest of the Obsidian Empire ? :)

    ----

Or we could find the teleport scroll ingredients skyrocket in cost in some future release, and a resurgence of the hard-core aspect.

I'll have my popcorn standing by to watch the drama unfold. :)

I've provided that to the devs in the past. The forums are not where you "call people out" for that. You send the information to the devs and let them decide how to handle it.

The devs should be able to look at their metrics to see simple things like "who uses teleports for travel but doesn't group up or teleports back shortly after" to get a feel for how rampant this is or isn't. If my feedback is too anecdotal, I'm confident they will disregard it.

One possibility is that the original concept of hired escorts and caravans will be replaced by crafter's of teleport scrolls. It is still and expense and it still provides a job. So that is a bright side.

For those of us that enjoy the challenge of them? Sometimes I want to move fast, sometimes I want to enjoy the stroll.

Could replace teleport scrolls with more lunar gates
And perhaps add a teleport spell to a specific town as a top skill in magic schools/weapon schools.

I don't use them. I think since final wipe I may have used one maybe, but not two. I actually deleted all the ones I had and then decided to make a few more to help raise my alchemy skill, they're now sitting in a chest in the deepest part of my basement.

But that's besides the point. Regardless of if I use them or I don't use them the feedback is about the impact to the economy and not anyone's playstyle. However, if someone has a playstyle that says they can't occasionally walk on the overworld map or go through control points the same as me, I don't think that's reasonable. I travel quite a bit. I have a home in Kingsport and a town in Rats Nest. Two places couldn't exist further apart from one another, yet I don't use teleport scrolls.

Im not asking you to call people out, I am saying provide explicit evidence as to where exploits are happening and how it is actually effecting things. Things can be censored and that can be provided without calling someone out. If you cant provide evidence to support your statement then at the very least you can not poke at the next guy for not providing any. Until then, its just conjecture and vague broad claims that amounts to you not liking the fact that other people are using them.

This reflects back to "Regional Economy" - From my perspective (and of course i am but one small person who rarely sees things the way many would think they truly are to be seen. ) -

If a region is currently controlled by one group of people, then prices will be lower for them, higher for others. These control points will also have things in them that we want, only way to get them is to enter the control point and try to take it over. The elves are not going to easily give over to the humans that which they feel they deserve, have earned and are going to control. Humans want it, so they need to fight for it, to bring it to their economy.

I do not believe control points were necessarily created merely to block your path from one region to another, or there would be no cross regional trade and no regional economy, but more for a "who controls said region"
(another reason I do not believe that control points were meant to just lock you out from one region or another... the boats have you by passing all control points as well. I can get anywhere in the world, without going through a single control point)

Elves control it, until the Humans come in and clear them out - Wave after Wave.
Undead control it, until the Avatars come in and clear them out - Wave after Wave.
    So on, so froth.

Items are wanted in those control points but you are going to have to fight to acquire it from those who claim ownership to it.

There are no control points on that walk. I do the same jog all the time from Rats Nest. It's a nice trip with no loading. There's no risk there so teleporting would not be avoiding anything.

The problem really stems from people jumping over the control points. Doing it to meet up with friends makes sense. Doing it because you have a network of "friends" that allow you to fast travel anywhere, doesn't.

If you had to go to the Gem Graff Mines you would have to go through a very difficult control point, no? That's where it matters most. That region is going to produce the most valuable and greatest quantity of gems in the game (someday). If people can just teleport there and back (not encumbered) then what's the point in living there? It's more like everyone lives there, and your geographic location offers no real benefits in trade or travel. This is one of many many examples.

And btw, the OP has always read that we should either remove them OR further restrict them so they're balanced. The example I gave was to make them "20 times more expensive", but throughout this thread I've made other suggestions. So there's no need to get caught up in the idea I'm only saying we can remove them because that's not what I'm saying.
