Forgive me for being this tardy in commenting on the graphical aspect of R16 Shroud, but I must take a minute to make a comment regarding the overland map. As I was walking home this evening I was struck by the beauty and flow of my surroundings....

I can sum up my feelings about this late afternoon scene on the overland map as - happy and amazed!
Thank you Abe (et/al) You're right on track.... ;)

** Edit ** No comment on my "encounters" along the way.... if you get my drift.

I love the artwork in the overworld map, especially Hidden Vale now that it reflects the style of the mainland. I especially like the way you feel "immersed" in the map now. That is, when the Avatar is running through trees its more scaled and he's actually amongst them rather than running through them like a giant. Mountains also feel more...mountainy and love the detail put into them.

The overland map is looking better and better. In the ultimas of old, the overland maps were just as important as the loaded scenes and towns themselves and as in all good stories, it's the places you see /encounters along the way to the goal of your quest that makes for the best adventures (with some tweaking to the current random encounters of course lol)

Yes it's come a long way since the first few iterations and I'm happy now that it runs smoothly without any hitches.
I am slightly puzzled by the heavy blue tint of the shadows though. I can understand a purple tint can work well, but these shadows are almost electric blue....

I still remember that very passionate & heated debate as to whether to stick to the then new cloth map (and save development time for the other core areas of the game) or just scrap it all and go back to the original vision of a rich overland map similar to what Ultima had. Seeing what it is now I'm very glad that Portalarium made that U turn.

    disclosure :
I was in the pro-cloth map camp at the time :)
