So I was driving home a while ago and I stopped at the gas station and bought a lottery ticket (just to take my chances at winning 40 million or so). As I got back in my car I thought to myself, why doesn't SotA do a lottery? So here is what I have so far (not entirely flushed out): The participate pays $1 dollar per entry into the lottery The drawing happens once, twice or three times a month The prizes could be anything from the store (snowballs, tools, house addons) so far or they could be perhaps a bump to the next pledge tier (this would obviously favor certain tiers above others, so maybe we have a ceiling for which pledges are bumped) I think this might be an interesting way to get some more revenue for the game in small increments for the backers. Let me know what y'all think (please be kind, it's my first thread...)
I posted a similar suggestion.. A long time ago (8-9 months?). The bear tavern has ran a few of thier own own lotteries and i believe they did well. Sooo yep! +1 i think its a great way to raise funds! There may be legal or tax concerns though. It may fall under gambling which could prevent port from doing it as a result.
Great Idea, would be a good crowd funding.... could be a legal complication however with "lottery" might have to be a raffle or called something different...
Oh I had no idea that you posted a similar suggestion! How was it received back then? And I never thought about it in legal terms, though if it is referred to as a pledge amount would it still be "gambling?" I guess perhaps it could be like Kick Stater, where we give money in hopes that what we fund comes to fruition.
Doesn't matter what you call it. Raffling is gambling is gaming. Laws on such practices vary by state and municipality.
We have had 2 lotteries, probably time for a 3rd We were not able to advertise real life money themed lotteries on this forum if IIRC.
VERY good (thats the only reason I mentioned it). The feed back from the community was fairly much universally positive. But yeah, im guessing doing much short of just give-away with no strings attached (don't have to buy anything, etc), could become a legal nightmare.
I think it's a great idea but I doubt it will be feasible as it's not just US laws you have to work with. Lets not forget there are those of us outside the US who have also pledged.
Doesn't preclude anyone from making an in-game lottery with in-game gold and items. Sounds like a fun RP adventure / trust exercise
Do you think it could be done if we bought credits from the add-on store and used those? Where is a lawyer who knows international gambling laws when we need one?
If real life money is involved in any way to play the lottery, not gonna happen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambling_in_Texas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambling_in_the_United_States So yeah, be careful even for player-sponsored lotteries that involve real cash...
