Speed of travel on Overland map better than in R35

It may be my imagination, but it seems that the speed of travel on the Overland map is much more differentiated than in R35. It's quickest on roads, but doesn't slow to a crawl if I move away from the road in a grassy landscape. I was able to cut corners (straying from the path) running from Libris Ruins to Brittany at a good clip. Off-road travel through wooded or hilly areas slows to the familiar crawl.

Some places still don't conform to this new observation. For example Area: Novia (Novia) Loc: (95.6, 13.5, 1.4). If I deviate from the road by a slight bit on cleared terrain, my avatar moves as if in quicksand (see screenshot to see how far from the road this is).

 

I noticed this as well! Seems roads are a bit "wider" which is nice to help avoiding encounters.

 

I noticed it plays the "coconuts" sound even without them being equipped. Maybe there is a bug that has the speed bonus enabled all the time?

 

Are you sure it's not "shell shock"?

 

I thought I was moving a bit faster this morning too but assumed it was my imagination. Didn't notice any sounds but I was playing with the volume way down so I didn't wake anyone up.

 

I only hear the galloping sound when coconuts are equipped. Sounds like a bug that should be reported if it can be reproduced. The travel speed with coconuts is much faster than it was in R35. I was going so fast with the coconuts that I had trouble hitting the right spot to cross a bridge

 

It felt a little better to me in most places, *crosses fingers*, it was way too bad. I'm always getting turned around or lost. It takes me forever to get anywhere.

 

I hope that the increase in speed that the OP speaks of, IS intended.
Overworld travel is not fun, mostly because of the speed.
