Skill Proficiency: . . . . .These skills are immensely expensive to learn and should not be taken lightly as they are intended for accomplished players only as a way to help concentrate on a couple of skill trees. The benefits of raising proficiencies in skill trees are:
    • For the Taming tree, this will dramatically increase the power of your pet. The amount of benefit will vary but many pet owners (insert only the few who have 1million + exp to burn after unlearning) could see their pet double in health and damage output.
Sorry but this is just plain old junk . . . Where is the fix to balance the 600+ points already spent in a tree . . . .

There is already a skill in the tree just for making pets stronger . . . Combat Training.

The tree itself is very expensive to learn not only in skill points but effort to use them since one needs many complicated resources to be used to make the items.

If you have spent 600 + levels in your tree and GMed 4 skills you have already incurred an IMMENSE amount of time / effort / resources to do this why do I now have to do it again.

Basically this is what is going to happen - some of the power gamers are going to unlearn a few of the less viable trees and just master and become proficient in Taming and walk around with some Prismatic Fire Mosquito and just wail away at any scene with impudence.

I will of course go test a little but I do not have skill I can just waste away to become proficient in a blink as others can.

This cracked me up. I mean, not to detract from the seriousness of your concern or anything, but I WANT Prismatic Fire Mosquito.

With taming tho, really, they had to make it linked to mastery. For most high level folks I think there's a lot more appeal in other masteries that supplement their build, though taming is - finally - at least an option instead of an oversight.

TY I am glad you like it perhaps they will intoroduce, . .

But it is still an oversight just a boost given to those High level folks I have as much in that tree as in my water tree and an ice elemental is still much more efficient. I am sure if I Proficient Ice and Taming they will be the same so nothing changed. we shall see I reserve the right to ITYS when a "Mosquito" rules the world ;)

Well don't panic yet, lets see how taming mastery scales the pets once you can actually train it

Ok I know this was just a random example and this picture is a first time very rudimentary use of Paint and Photobucket after new computer . .

One thing to note is that Chris always said he didn't want pets to be as viable as an Avatar, so their numbers were always low. Now with the specialisation, what this means is that not everyone will Specialise taming, meaning everyone can get a pet, but the Tamers who decide to put taming as one of their 2 specialisation will have a far more powerful pet compared to others, which balances it out. I actually like this way of doing it.

That's because you haven't seen my Prismatic Fire Mosquito destroy entire zones yet! :) All hail the Prismatic Fire Mosquito!

the purpose is to make it so that not everyone can have powerful taming pets, because then it will be like nukes and everyone will have them because "why not?"

specialization keeps it to dedicated tamers.

At least wait to see how much power you get out of your available xp, or spend a week working on it, before crapping on the design.

Focus drain is huge, and losing a mastery pick and loss of a neck slot.

50% of my focus in plate (insane drain).

I think this is a fair balance if not needs more love in the way of focus reduction.

Agree on the focus penalty. the problem is that the focus penalty is subtractive instead of divisive. If you have 1300 focus, -500 brings you to 800 which is basically enough for anything. But if you have 550 focus, it brings you to 50, at which point the division-based focus regeneration rate becomes absurd.

You can use 2 fustian pieces to get plate to a usable amount of focus. I have an alt level ~75 that does this with the obsidian bear... but 2 pieces of armor should not make the difference between playable and unplayable, that's too harsh of a curve.

At least it looks like taming will be an option for those of us that love taming, we still need higher level pets and maybe some enchants and masterworks that can boost some of the passives in taming. Maybe an artifact or two for taming as well. We will know more tonight. All hail the Prismatic Fire Mosquito! :)
