For the same reason you can't just decide to be a boxer one day then jump in the ring and KO the heavyweight champion of the world.

Well, actually - wasn't that your original complaint in the OP?
    In your words (just below):

    But following your post again:
Once again - with the destroy me comment, you're all caught up in the PvP aspect - which I've stated, I care nothing about.

    But regarding
, your assumption that I have "played more" than you have.

What is the basis of that assumption?
Are you saying that no one - who has playing time equal to you - should be able to be where I (and others here) are - in terms of (your attachment to) our "Adventurer Level" ?

    Moving along......
I'll take that comment one step at a time:

Re: The "extra playing time you have"
Well, um, there's that assumption again..... How much more than you do you imagine I've played ?

Re: The "you're not spending any money" comment:
Well, my monetary commitment over the past year may not match yours - but then - how would you know that ?

Re: The comment that I'm not "doing anything skills based":
On what basis do you make that ridiculous assumption? Everything I did to get to the level I was, was "skills based".

Re: the you're just "playing more just like you said" comment:
Could you point me to the post where I said that I was "playing more" ?

    Moving along again.....

No Baron - that does not sound like fun - that sounds like Pay To Play or something similar.
I can't imagine that you would be in favor of that. (And yes, I did see your retraction, but it was what you said, was it not? )

I think the current gain rate of skills is perfectly fine.....
The bar you've set, is a bar that only those seriously absorbed in PvP may - apparently - have...

I'm just your average Joe, enjoying all we've been given - beyond - your PvP concerns......;)
And, once again, I think the gain rate of skills is perfectly fine.

Totally agree. I think it's too easy right now and it should take longer.

From what I've seen, the style of play influences the speed of level progression more than the number of hours spent in the game. Playing alone takes longer. At adventurer level 41 I still can't kill an elder wolf by myself, so I dabble with killing one or two timber wolves at a time to replenish my pool of adv experience that I depleted while collecting resources in beginner areas. This is very slow going, progression-wise, even with the 4x exp bonus (I have put in a lot of hours).

At the same time, groups of warriors are killing trolls and dragons within one or two weeks into the release. It stands to reason that their experience reward is greater while at the same time they are having fun using and levelling their skills in a meaningful way (as opposed to bashing gust balls for example).

If you want to become more powerful more quickly, I would try teaming up with others to level. Teaming up with others will help you in PVP skirmishes as well, as @jschoice has pointed out. I know you said you are anti-social, but I view that as a personal preference that doesn't warrant changing the game mechanics for everyone.

This is SO true! I am in a very active guild with wonderful people, and we all enjoy gathering together to explore and xp. You are welcome to join us Baron any time, just ask any one of us in the Phoenix Republic or any of our affiliated guilds such as the Jade Dragons. We have events on Thursday and Friday evenings which are posted on Avatars Circle in which we just hang out and kill stuff.

Our guild has people who PvP as well as our alliance guilds, who knows you may meet a few people to PvP with as well :)

Well, I'm dis-abled, divorced, the kids are all grown and the highest I ever got was level 63 back before the use based system (just hit level 35 before this release)... Ya, I could never figure out how others got so high, in such a short period of time, unless they used an exploit or played for hours on end or just grouped up...

I think what you're looking for is a temporary magic portal that leads to a scene where every ones stats are equal, their armor / weapon is fully repaired and they are pre-stocked with regs, then you can just go at it... after leaving the scene, then everything returns to your original spec's... Kind of like a challenge dungeon, but more of an equalizer, what ever skills you have go up to 100s, so that all that's left is abilities (personnel)... All the grinding is eliminated, no choices to make, just pure PvP from the on start...

I don't think anyone wants that... They want to dominate you, if you don't have the time to build your chr, so what... The competition likes it that way, shows they're superior...

That's an interesting argument. The heavyweight champ of the world practices and has tangible skills though. Clearly that's not the case here, because if I had your character and you had mine, it wouldn't be a close match. That's because the combat system is built on levels and has very little to do with skill, unless people are very closely matched up in level.

Also, being a boxer would require you to actually box. The heavyweight champ wouldn't go off and pick flowers (or some other unrelated skill, like PVE) for years and then come back and be "the champ" (in PVP). So the comparison doesn't really work unless we ignore reality.

Kara, I don't think what you're describing is a good solution. Why should I be forced to fight in a group?

I also don't think that make much of a difference the way the skill system works. I have a pool of EXP (which has never been close to being low for me) and regardless of if that pool were stocked to the brim and overflowing, I can't recognize those skills without actually using them. If I were out of EXP all the time, I'd say you have a good point. But that's not the case, I have tons of EXP, these people are just playing a lot more hours than I am. And that's something I don't have extra in - time.

Themo, I can't explain it any clearer. The only difference between your character with 600+ hit points and 5 grandmastery skills and counting, is time, verses someone lower level is time. You could've scripted that if you wanted to because TIME is the only thing holding you back.

If I could pay money for levels, I would gladly do it because that's the only thing that I have more of than time. And since time is the only thing that matters in this game of real consequence, that's the point of this OP. I don't feel this a difficult concept to understand.

You and others may think that's the way you want the game to work, but you should at least recognize that it's a fact that TIME is the only meaningful factor to success in this system.

Afterall, this is your steam account, is it not?

It's fine that you have that kind of time, but I don't and I never can have that kind of time. So how is that fair exactly?

yes time, you have to actually be involved to move forward.. you don't turn up to any activity on the planet and expect all other participants to handicap themselves because you don't have the time to participate.

Are you seriously complaining about those who play/grind longer getting stronger and better? I have a wife, 6 kids, own a business and countless other responsibilities. Good grief. It's a game. No one forced either of us, or any of us, to assume real life responsibility nor purchase/play sota, but to complain like that over a game? I don't mean to be rude, but I'm shocked by this from a grown family man. It's not always how much time you have, it's how you spend it. My apologies, I just had to get that out.

We discussed this already...you can have program the game to do this stuff without you. There's almost no skill involved and PVE doesn't have anything to do with PVP. You're literally just pressing a button over and over again like someone would at a casino with slot machines. The more you play there the more chance you have to win too.

It's not like I'm not playing, I'd say getting to level 41 in 3 weeks is not something that most players in R23 accomplished. When you consider I was traveling for work half that time during those three weeks and didn't even have access to a computer that could run SOTA, almost every waking moment was spent leveling for me.

I'm surprised that you would defend that system. I wonder how many players would still want to play a game like Madden Football if people could have a better team simply by playing more than everyone else? I don't think that would be a very competitive game and people would just stop playing. There are many other genres of games that would have a similar impact. I can see it now, you log in to play Halo and there's someone that is level 100 just casually walking around killing everyone in sight. What a fun game.

I'm here to PVP. I'm here to Roleplay.

Neither of those things should have anything to do with being required to grind for 4000+ hours.

The version of PVP I'm interested in is a fair fight where everyone has a reasonable chance to win, or at least exact revenge. I didn't realize you were offering that. It seemed to me like your group of multiple level 70+ characters was focused on some other form of entertainment that could only be achieved while playing insane amounts of time.

But hey, four months to a year after launch I might be able to participate. I can't wait!

You know what the easiest solution would be? Reduce the play time of every player to your time Drocis. You know what the result would be? They would be still lvl 75 and you only 30. Why do you think everything in this game should be reduced to your playstyle? There will always be some that are so much better than you.
