Hey folks, I have a few screenshots to share of South Boundless Forest. The forests are home to a group of native barbarians, who have made their home in the ruins of an ancient amphitheater. A kobold mining operation has moved in, and is slowly devouring the barbarian's homes. The new look for this map is inspired by the giant redwood forests of California, The ruins of amphitheaters such as the Colosseum, and scenes from the movie, the 13th warrior. This scene is still a work in progress, and you can expect a few more screenshots next week, showing off the underground "Halls of Eating," and the Kobold logging camp.

    Q:

If the forest is boundless, why does it have an exit?

another gorgeous scene! the unclonings are always such a treat. thanks for the hard work.

Id also like to add that the book, Eaters of the Dead, from which the movie "The 13th Warrior" was based, is an excellent read!

@Sea-Wolf thank you for sharing... and I am sorry, but I really have a hard time with the Kobold SciFi tech! (That's far beyond steam punk and even steam punk IMHO doesn't fit in the overall art & tech design).
If "you" really want to add ray guns and glowing-diesel-tractor-saws this could be limited hi-tier areas with "aliens" using "alien high-tech" where the technological advantage could be "balanced" with low population numbers and/or other disadvantages (no magic, biological incompatibility with Novia gravity/air...).

I know the term steam-punk was used early in the project, but very little of this game is inspired by victorian era sci-fi. The Kobold are not steam punk. If someone told you that, they were mistaken, the quote is out of date, or they have a definition of steam punk that isn't influenced by Jules Vern. The kobold are definitely more tech heavy, and we have been moving in that direction with the art style for some time now. Of course you are entitled to your opinion about the aesthetic, but this is not likely to change. Nothing against aliens, but I don't think the art team has an interest in exploring old tropes. We aren't trying to fit cleanly within a particular genre, and there really isn't a right or wrong way to merge genres to create something new.
