Players, enemies, animals leaving behind footprints, blood from injuries, and other tracks -- where appropriate -- would serve several purposes in the game.

    - Immersion. Players leaving footprints on sand at the beach or in mud after the rain would increase the degree the world feels like its a dynamic, living place. Enemies leaving behind blood on the ground when injured would also make it feel more real.

    - Stealth tell. As a tell to when someone is around who is invisible, if he's not careful. If a thief doesn't notice the ground is soft, or his shoes are muddy, he's being stupid and will let people know he's there. If he's injured, even though he's invisible, he'll leave a blood trail.

    - Animal hunting. Instead of wandering from location to location in a scene looking for stag spawns, you could follow tracks. This would be good for several reasons. It would allow scenes to be more sparsely populated, making them feel more real. It would make hunting for animals a fun process, rather than either wandering or camp spawning.

    - Tracking skill. The addition of a fun ranger/rogue skill in the game. This would cause you to notice more tracks, and tell more information about them.

    - Detective quests. Like you have in Witcher 3 where you have to use your witcher senses to track down people by following their footprints or by their blood trails.
