Trolls

No disrespect to anyone, it may only be me, but recently I have been noticing trolls on the forum

 

There will always be trolls in any community. I think this community is better than most, but we're not without a few. The best response in to pay them no mind and focus on the rest of the community.

 

How big were they? What color hair? Are you taking offense to these "forum trolls"? What exactly is bugging you? Technically your post could be seen as a forum troll post as it may cause an emotional response or start an argument. How recent are we talking about here Oremanger? How long have you been a patron of these fine forums?

From wiki, a forum troll: In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

 

I suspected that some recent haters seems a bit too dedicated to raising hell. But the good nature of the members handled those cases well. At the same time, I can see how people become frustrated and simply do not know what to expect from a pre-alpha game OR they just did not like the aspects of the game that were unique. I think many of the complaints were players looking for the cheese.

 

The thing is, everyone's take on humor is different. One person may be a very sarcastic person, some will be receptive to it, while others may not be.

In my humble opinion, I think people need to lighten up, it's 2015. I see a lot of reporting being done (mostly "off-topic" reports) but they stir up great conversations sometimes unexpectedly.

I'd like to think there is a difference between being a troll (an agitator) and someone who is merely making jokes.

I think most every post from Budner is a joke, but there are all in good spirit. I don't think he ever tries to anger people or act like a troll.

Trolling is not the same thing as telling jokes.

 

Pretty much. I mean, I for one got moderated just a few hours ago by making a simple innocent but very funny (to me anyway) joke. Nothing close to being PG, but someone got offended by it, or someone is just trolling me and reporting me baselessly. Who knows, regardless of that fact, not everyone is going to be receptive of something posted. But it doesn't mean you try to censor it, unless it goes completely crazy and out of hand.

Perhaps Trolls need to be added in game so that they can be better dealt with, maybe with R14?

Ahhh, the wonderful thing, the forum troll.

It isn't someone who disagrees with what someone writes or that upsets you. I would say it is someone who doesn't care about the game at all and is just looking to cause problems.

Your mileage may vary.
