Does anyone feel incredibly nostalgic when they see the Ultima IV intro screen and hear the music? This is what I was hoping to one day feel about SotA.

That let me think of how much blown and overloaded our kids today are, loosing the abilitie to be satisfied with a lot less, where impression comes more out of fantasy like in a good book than from high res grafix and surround sound, but often a less good story, although there are exceptions.

It's amazing what they did with so little tech. The game really did stimulate my imagination. I played it while on the phone with my two best friends, one summer, when I was 12...So it was a great social experience, too.

I think I was lucky that I started this game about 17 months ago, well after kick starter and in the benefactor range.

    Why?

Because when I started playing this game... I DID... feel the nostalgia and I still do, which is the reason why I have played it for 17 months now.

Portalarium should include a section in SotA that is played like this. Some kind of parallel universe where the hero has to find some item and has to explore a small island, a town and a dungeon with those graphics ;)

It was the ultima v intro for me. Can't recall how many times I watched the little animated section. Fantastic stuff.

I didn't have the privilege of playing the old Ultima series back in the day, but this sounds like a cool idea!
Not something for Ep1, but maybe in the future they could add it.

(Kind of like what GW2 did with the 8-bit super adventure box on April Fool's Day a few years ago. The community loved them so much they kept them in the game.)

Its funny because I played Ultima 4 on my C64 and loved it, but several years later when it came out on the Nintendo, I really loved it even though there was a lot of stuff cut out of it. Probably because I didn't have to swap floppy disks every 3 seconds lol. People complain about SOTA, imagine if every time you zoned or fought a battle you had to switch a floppy disk. Bah... gamers today are pampered.

It was pretty neat that they basically animated the game intro using the tile graphics used in gameplay.

THIS! Ultima V changed my life forever. I actually think it probably played a large role in shaping me into the person I am now. Thank you, RG...

ya its kinda funny. RG games created a lot of smart nerds around the world however when those games came out... and I remember it... all the crazies were trying to ban it for being satanic (along with AC~DC) and corrupting our youth.

I got U4 recently on DOS box and have given it a go to rekindle old times... I'm thinking I should leave memories where they are though, after several decades of gaming I don't want to ruin the memory now on a whim.

The intro music though, it takes me back...!

The only game released in the last years that got Ultima-vibes and a similar atmosphere like in the older Ultimas was Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Are you saying I should buy the Switch for that? Sounds like it. :)
