I'm going to need.a.horse.
Any idea how big the world is going to be compared to other MMO's?
Awesome work! I'll have to incorporate your changes as I totally forgot about it when I updated my map this weekend with the most recent puzzle release last week. So currently the OP doesn't yet reflect that. Will try to get that done tonight when I get home from work.
I've updated again. feel free to incorporate what you like, and skip the rest.
Reading the book, Yanaford becomes Jaanaford. So, I'm not sure which will be on the map.. I've changed it here, but either might be right.
Are you still working on adding a 'curve' to your text?
My latest: 23 pieces
I did start another layer with the text along a curved path directly over the existing runic text but haven't completed it yet. I want to try some better fonts especially with a black outline around it for better readability. Need to figure that out in Gimp first!
Mine had been updated as always Good job with your maps
I'm still learning GIMP myself. Here's my first try to get an outline: outline
I did that using the Filter - Alpha to Logo - 3D Outline with all the settings at 3 pixels.
May not be the best way, seeing as how I had to magic wand select the background afterwards, invert, then copy, undo to before the filter, and past as new layer.. then align it...
Plus some of the 'outline' went white instead of black, so i had to color select the white, and invert the color value to make it all shades of black.
Let me know if you figure something out you like.
Map updated with new puzzle piece!
- South Paladis
- West Jaana
I left the other translated text that didn't have associated puzzle pieces off this map to keep it spoiler-free, but did correct some issues you pointed out.
And I found out another way to do outlines. Select the layer, Layer->Transparency->Alpha to Selection, Edit->Stroke Selection. Then select Solid Color, Line width of 1.0 and then click Stroke.
So you could do this as you add each new translated text as those exist as temporary layers until you're done with it. But because it operates on entire layers, I was able to add an outline to all the text in one operation.
If anyone is worried about SotA using names from Ultima, there's one used thrice. Now I'm curious of the backstory of that area.
Looks like the town/city I want to live in is almost revealed just left of centre.
11 pieces to go!
I like that place, but then again it's a dead end road, not sure how well that wold be for vendor
It's fairly obvious to me that RG is using some names from previous ultimas that were probably not trademarked.
There is also the case of the river Shimano. It doesn't take a genius to recognize with a vowel substitution what that name is similar to.
It looks like some of the old companion names are being reused, but as geographic landmarks, like rivers instead of people.
This gives a 'tip of the hat' to Ultima without 'copying'. There isn't a character with that name, here it's a river.
It's exciting, because it helps the land feel real, like the games we played in the passed exist in the forgotten legends of this world..
It bodes well making this truly feel like a 'spiritual successor'.
Yeah totally !
There must be a story behind this.
Whoops, forgot to mention that the OP has been updated with the latest piece! Added:
- Pillars of Night
Not that it matters a lot but I've been unable to upload the new version of my map because of the 8MB limitation that was recently added to the wiki hopefully that's fixed soon though. The xcf is up to date however.
I really, really want to know about the city inside that forest with the mountains. That city is awesome
So what named dungeons do we currently know about in the game ?
I feel like there should be 4 more
I think Frigian is name of the river, Fogladden might be too Not sure though!
Separate names with a comma.
