So, the way the game works with story NPCs is that you don't know the NPC's name until you interact with them. You might see an NPC titled "Farmer", and then when you talk to them, their nameplate might change to "Myra the Farmer" or "Randall the Farmer." Or you might see an NPC titled "Fishmonger", and then when you talk to them, their nameplate might change to "Morgan the Fishmonger."

The way the game works with player vendors and player owned-NPCs is different. The player just gives them whatever name they want, and the name is always visible to players, regardless of if you interact with them. So, a player names a vendor "BUY CHEAP WEAPONS HERE", and that's their name, and it always shows.

    -----

So, I'd like to see player vendors and player owned-NPCs work like this:

There would be two fields to work with, "Name" and "Title". The default behavior would be to show the NPC with "<Title>", and then when you interact with it to them, it would reformat for you to "<Name> the <Title>". The default title for Vendors would be "Vendor." The default title for other player-owned NPCs would be related to the NPC type.

So, with that pattern, I could set up a vendor named "Efram the Provisioner", who would first appear to players as "Provisioner." The player would double-click on my vendor and his name would be revealed.

There would need to be some exceptions to this pattern if more NPC types come in the game for players to place. For example, Villagers we see in the game don't have an "the Villager" title, and children won't have "the Boy" or "the Girl" title. As for custom titles, that would be up to the devs to decide. Either restrict custom titles, give free-entry, or have a drop-down.

    ----

    A couple of loose ends:

    - POT bankers/town criers don't have names! They also unnecessarily have the POTs name prefixing their job title. It's not "Banker and Town Crier" --- it's "Owl's Rest Banker and Town Crier." Why is the POT name necessary in their title? And why can't a real name be set to prefix the title?

    - Pets -- both story pets and player-placed pets. You know their name immediately without looking at any name tag and without asking the owner their name. Should it work this way?

    - Yes, we need shop signs to replace people advertising the shop in the vendor's name.
