We need a way to exclude certain housing types

There are two light houses in the canal or river in Kingsport.

We need a way to exclude certain house types from being used in certain lots. This should be a tool that developers can use for NPC and PRT's, but also for POT owners.

 

really!! So now you think we should tell players what kind of houses they can place or not. These lots could have been the only lots available at the time.. What is beautiful to you may not be beautiful to others.. and vise versa.

 

While I think an exclusion tool in POTs makes sense for people trying to keep a cohesive theme, Port has stated before in hangouts that they will not restrict the types of structures players can place in NPC/PRT spaces.

 

No WE don't.

 

It's not about beauty, it's about practical use of a light house.

There's no need for a light house in the Kingsport river, let alone two of them.

 

POT owners already have that tool.
It's the Eviction tool.....

 

Needless to say, it is not your choice nor should it be. To each his/her own to use what house they feel like using or to decorate it any which, way, shape or form he/she feels like.

 

Right. If you want to be heavy-handed then you can just tell them to change it or get out.

 

I know it's not my choice, I'm comfortable leaving it up to the developers to decide.

I'm actually ok with a PoT owner having this kind of control of his town. If you don't like the theme, go elsewhere. The PoT is the vision of the owner. Sure there are cooperative PoTs with a theme, and most without a theme. As owner, I think it would be acceptable/expected to allow PoT owner control of theme and housing type.

For the record, I am not a PoT owner.

 

For POTs, I think this is fair. Some POTs may be aiming for a certain theme and that's ok.

For NPC towns, I dunno. I do agree two light houses side by side is a bit wonky looking. But my hunch is that in time, that too shall pass and something else will appear in its place. Eventually.

 

I am not against PoT owners asking their residents to cooperate with the theme of the PoT.. Most residents would oblige. I just do not think we should tell anyone who paid for a pledge with a certain type of house or bought a house in the add-on store that they can not use it in a NPC or PRT town, especially when lots will be scarce.

 

But the lots are already scarce, so we're actually already doing that to a great extent. Want to put a light house in Kingsport? Sorry, all the waterlots are taken.

I don't think the exclusion excuse works here. But I'm not totally empathetic to what you're talking about. Someone that really wants a lighthouse in Kingsport is not going to be happy if there's only allowed (unless of course they're the one that gets it). Honestly I think this is simply a byproduct of limited housing.

 

If the water lots are all taken up by other avatars, what can anyone do? (C'est la vie). But if there is a lot available and already a lighthouse next to it.. We should not tell them NO you can't place your lighthouse, because one is already there. Yes it looks bad, but they should enjoy their game play just as much as the next avatar and be able to place it.

 

I can understand this concern from an aesthetic point of view , however, if you begin by selective reasoning the control of who, what, and where; what is the point in anyone owning a lot. Freedom of expression must be part of the game itself. Each of us participating are a unique individual and each should have the availability as far as possible to express it. Diversity creates a universe of its own.

 

I just hope no one builds a replica of the Florida Capitol Building next door to my house.
