I am doing an experiment, and I am trying to figure out what creatures drop COTO’s.

I’ve been to Twins Foothills, Craig Foothills, Verdantis Mines, Elysian Mines, Graff Gem Mines, and nothing so far.

I don’t know if it requires hundreds of hours, weeks or months before one will drop while in a specific area? Anyone have any suggestions?

Anything that drop loot really. The more the better, as in bosses are the best but obviously if you can kill loads of mid level stuff vs 1 boss, that might be better over time. Even gathering has a chance to yeild COTOs. The chance to get some COTOs is drastically increased with the split but it's still not like it's happening all the time anywhere.

I've gotten a total of 5 in a year and a half. 2 of those were in the two or three weeks prior to the change. Haven't seen any since. I know they should drop 100x more, but I was expecting 100x more often, not the same rate but more quantity.

As an aside... it's sounding to me like the frequency of drops hasn't increased... just that it's more granular. So it's not 100x more likely to get cotos now... like you'd get 1-2 at a time... but 50-100 drop at once, but as rarely as before.

    Does that sound right?

They somehow always manage to do things in disappointing ways. I'd rather get fewer more frequently, instead of having a smaller number of lottery-winner people.

It's actually the case. They drop more frequently and most often in stacks of 10-30. Very rarely you'll still get a stack equal to 1 old COTO.

Holy cow! Since starting from Release, I have found a GRAND total of 3 COTO's. And now for the first time, I have actually found COTO's (since then) from a creature in the game. Found 12 COTO's from a Grand Boar corpse in the Greymark Forest. This took approximately one hour. Thanks for the tips! Experiment concluded. But I'm going to keep collecting data (at least what my character is finding).

I got some from the daemon in Solania Catacombs.

However, he was so traumatized by that that he called in some contractors to install new locked door and then threw away the key. He just wants to be left alone now.

i had about 35-40 drops before the change and 2 coto drops (49 & 61) after the change. Most of them from gathering resources (mining, chopping trees and skinning animals), a few drops from looting.
Anybody had a coto drop while crafting ? Is that even possible ?

Going to do a new experiment. I’ll document how long it will take me to get the Pirate outfit on the store. I have 12 COTO’s so far. 988 more to go! :D

I haven't gotten any since the conversion, but most of mine from before have come from ore nodes and I think one from skinning a wolf.

Which area or mine were you in?

I’ve never seen any in Graff or Elysium mines.
