I capture with Fraps but wanted to combine and edit a few clips together. My first thought was Microsoft Movie Maker but when I went to the site to download, it came with all manner of other imbedded Microsoft programs. Rather then clog up my registry with even more Microsoft tentacles, I'll need a less intrusive program. I guess I can go buy one but figured I check with the community to see what they use. Posting the praises of software on Facebook before I can download it seems a bit intrusive. Thanks for responses, I really appreciate it. Its awesome to be part of a mature and helpful group of gamers:)

I actually just got HitFilm. Its actually a nice program with some cool effects and stuff. It just pops up a window to Facebook or Twitter. If you are not logged in then you can just close the window and continue to get the key. It doesn't force you to post, but it seems like a small cost for the deal. And it looks like you can wait til you try it to post anyway.

Its normally $149, so its a good deal and you can always buy it if you don't like the requirements of the free deal or feel dirty not posting to get it.

No problem. I saw that in my news feed yesterday and been meaning to check it out. jamco12 just reminded me about it; otherwise I would have missed out on the deal too.

The only program i use is Avidemux http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/
it's free and allows you to do basic things like join parts of vids and split them, which is handy if you record then stop then record again like i do, It's no good for pro stuff, I have Director pro but its a pain and slow even on my rig.

For those uploading to YouTube, what settings are you using for your capture software? I'm currently testing out Bandicam and OBS at various settings. Which codec? VBR or CBR (and at what bitrate)? YouTube really loves to compress the hell out of the thing it seems.

    Jamco12,

If you run Linux, Openshot would be a great video editor to have.

I use Lightworks which is an application made by professionals who wanted an alternative to Avid. It's mainly used for actual film (as in putting movies together) rather than for casual video editing and has a pretty steep learning curve, but it's very powerful.

I have used Sony Vegas for many years and am very happy with it. Bit of a learning curve but the results are amazing.

    Check out this link: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftware

The range starts from $49.95 for Movie Studio 13, all the way up to the Pro. I bought that, but will admit that I don't understand or use a lot of it - it's just nice to know that I will never run into a situation where the program won't do something I want.

You can download them and try them for free too.

OBS will stream. In fact when you save to file it is just saving your stream.

    Edit: Screenshot of options...

Hi jamco12, just wondering what version of MS Windows you are using? Movie Maker is a very easy to use quick to learn simple tool. There are probably some lesser known downloads available from Microsoft which dont install all the extra junk if you use the application in Desktop Mode(outside the store if you are on W8+).

The machine I use to play the game is runs Windows 8, a direct link to Movie maker would be awesome, I can't seem to find one. I remember messing around with it when it was first available and it seemed pretty easy to use.
