Reposting from the Steam guide I just made, please rate if you are on Steam and think it'll help new players:

There are three starting areas, each consisting of a Story scene and then an Outskirt scene. The story scene begins that part of the associated storyline. All three storylines are meant to be played in tandem, so finishing all of these early in the game is recommended.

After you leave the starting battle/outskirts scene, you will be take to an Outskirts scene.

Quests give both crafting and adventure XP. Outskirts are full of quests, so are an XP jackpot, particularly if you are a crafter.

No quests in any Outskirt are a main story quest, the scenes can be skipped if you don't want the XP or loot/deed.

After finishing the main quest in your Outskirts scene, tell the main NPC there "Deed" to get your land deed, and "Gear" to get some sweet loot. You are done with the main quest when they give you a Banner

    NPC by scene:
Battle of Solace Bridge -> Captain Kinsey
Battle of Highvale -> Captain Burnes
    Blood River Massacre -> Alberic

Once you have a Deed you can go claim land in a player owned town. Take a break and try out home ownership if you like. Go do some community events. But when you get back into adventuring (or before crafting) I suggest doing the other two Outskirts for the XP (and some valuable deco items, Frostgeist skulls are worth at least 10,000 gold each to players as deco).

I would maybe add as a little extra to it what Love, Courage and Truth represent (very shortly, just so the new player understands why you are linking them to a scene), and maybe adding a link to a guide talking about housing where you talk about deeds.

My thinking here is that by simply mentioning something without going into depth or without giving another resource for details, the newer player will simply be a bit more confused.

    Good guide though!

    Some additional information:

How do you know you finished the main quest for an Outskirts Area? When you receive a banner that is associated with the specific area.

Of note, this is only for the quests associated with the areas main quest for an Outskirts Area. Other various side quests can still be active or completed when you wish to finish them.

So when you get the banner, ask for the deed?

Associated with all three is an "Outskirts". These are you XP jackpot, particularly if you are a crafter, as crafting XP is hard to come by. Nothing in the Outskirts is a main story quest, the scenes can be skipped if you don't want the XP.

This is a bit misleading. The XP gained from quests that give XP are Crafting AND Adventure XP.

Might clarify that a bit further?
