That one word makes a big difference, and you're the first in the thread to mention it. So it's a limited-time (founder) reward.

I actually have two! One Royal and one just founder.

It works quite nicely in combat I'm happy. The animations are also REALLY nice. I'm not obsessed with animations but these ones are top notch.

I wasn't excited about this reward before but it turns out to be quite fun.

So Citizen pledges don't get it, but the donors below do?

Not a popular opinion around here I'm sure, but I hate stuff like this. My view:

If pets are permanently killed if not resurrected within a minute ... this one should too. The pet (or a different pet with similar combat capabilities) should also be tamable by a high level tamer if given as a reward.

Basically, in my view all pledge rewards (or similar level items) should be able to be acquired through pure elbow grease. And those similar items should play by the same rules as organically obtained items.

    That's my sincere .02.

Agreed. I think if the chest mimic can't be permakilled, there should be a good in-game reason for it, which should be something we can choose to apply to any in-game pet for the same purpose. It could even be difficult, as long as it's possible to acquire and accomplish in-game too.

Soul bound. The original binding spell was stronger and doesn't have to be renewed. The newer version is inferior in power and scope and has to be renewed periodically to make sure the mimic isn't permakilled.

Miss one renewal and you're back to square one - meaning you'll have to gather those rare materials to reforge the necklace. On every third full moon. You did say difficult :)

As long as the 'soulbound' mechanics work the same for both pledge-pets and non-pledge pets, it's all good.

**I have a pledge pet by the way, and well.. the reward said that we would get the opportunity to tame an exotic creature that no one else can tame. So I'd much prefer it if we weren't just given a permanent mimic as a combat pet.. but that we are able to tame a mimic, while others can not. So ideally, the mimic can die.. but then I can go and tame another mimic. Because that's what the reward gave me. The mechanics of taming the pet, and fighting with the pet, and its permadeath, should all work just like every other pet out there in the world. The only difference was supposed to be my ability to tame an exotic pet rather than the same type of pet everyone else can tame.**

P.S. I was sad to see that it took away our opportunity to try and tame from a selection of exotic pet choices. instead, everyone is just running around with a 'free mimic pet' - whether they intend to be pet tamers or not. This isn't what I thought the reward was supposed to be.
    The current wording is:
"Unique ability to tame an elusive monster that an ordinary player could never tame!"
though i think originally it said 'exotic' that word choice isn't important.
If pets can die, and they have permadeath, so should the 'exotic pet'. our special reward should only allow us to add a selection of 'elusive/exotic' monsters to the list of possibles to be tamed.
    Do you agree?

    ???
That is not an unpopular view. Where do you get that from? I can only think of three posters with a contrary view and they get flack for it every time.

The vast majority of players agree with this view. We should be able to get similar or better items through playing the game. Just make it hard and the perceived value is still there.

The only thing that is unpopular is when some advocate the complete removal of certain items since some had to do real life grinding wanting to get this or that item and you were definately not doing that.

I strongly believe in fulfilling and sticking to Kickstarter promises so it shouldn't be the mimic for backers who came after but something else ( don't have the mimic btw)

The mechanism I described is very similar to Star Citizen's Lifetime vs Limited insurance. Minus the moon and necklace of course :)
