Kobolds were a lizard creature originally created in Dungeons and Dragons, and have nothing to do with the element, or the related color.

They weren't lizards in the folklore. So the comparison to SotA is more accurately reflected with the D&D reference. The link was to show that cobalt had nothing to do with the name. I could have been more clear about that.

After reading it more, it would seem the name for the element came from the fictional creature, not the other way around. Which is a fun fact I didn't know.

I recall kobolds as the lizard-rat-dog 1/4 HD of yore from D&D, well before they were made more draconian in 3rd ed. D&D. Though to be fair, the SotA kobolds are nothing to sneeze at.

Any creature in SotA that was not in UO will have a back story explaining why they are there. - Tracy Hickman (paraphrased by me and hopefully I was not too far off the mark cause I ain't hunting that one down to quote)

First time I stumbled across Kobolds in role playing many moons ago (very many moons ago), they were cited as dog-like humanoids, smaller than normal humans, lizard-men were a separate entity altogether.

In different role-playing environments there have been minor differences in the exact characteristics of humanoid races such as goblins, orcs, kobolds, etc why should SOTA be any different, as long as they give them a suitable back-story and traits I can live with however they are defined.
